About the Department
 

The Section of Adult and Pediatric Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism is a national leader in research leading to the development of new insights in the treatment of endocrine diseases and disorders. Work in the areas of diabetes, thyroid and sleep disorders has been greatly advanced by The University of Chicago endocrinology faculty. Our research activities are supported by a number of different sources including the National Institute of Health (NIH) and non-federal granting agencies. The Section is home to one of 16 NIH funded Diabetes Research and Training Centers. Over the years, several members of the Endocrine faculty have led investigations that resulted in significant discoveries in the areas of diabetes, thyroid and sleep disorders.


Job Summary
 

Under general supervision, the Research Technician will perform moderately complex lab and/or research-related duties and tasks for the Hara Lab within the Section of Adult and Pediatric Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism.

Responsibilities

  • Collects and maintains data and/or specimens.
  • Analyzes data.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies.
  • Responsibilities may also include the following non-laboratory duties: assisting with developing or amending study protocols; assisting with developing data collection tools; assisting with building databases; and providing general administrative support.
  • Responsibilities may include the following laboratory duties: setting up and performing experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the research being conducted.

Experience:

  • Relevant research experience.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Knowledge in relevant scientific field.
  • Knowledge of research techniques or methods relevant to the lab (e.g. Microscope imaging, image and data analyses, which includes writing/modifying computer scripts, maintaining the computer network environment and trouble-shooting hardware/software problems).
