The Paulovich Lab at Fred Hutch (http://research.fhcrc.org/paulovich/en.html) is an interdisciplinary team whose mission is to develop and implement next generation tools to enable precision medicine (e.g., patient selection and identification of novel therapeutic targets) using mass spectrometry-based proteomics and the integration of proteomic and genomic data (“proteogenomics”). The group is highly collaborative, participating in national and international consortia in which teams of scientists, statisticians, and clinicians work together on translational research designed to solve clinical problems to impact human health. The lab includes a CLIA environment in which we support pharmacodynamic, mechanism of action, and correlative studies for clinical trials.

This is a terrific opportunity for a highly motivated, interactive, Protein or Analytical Chemist to join our interdisciplinary team to help drive translational projects forward towards clinical applications by performing proteomic experiments and participating in the analysis and interpretation of results.

Responsibilities

• Process proteomic samples for LC-MS analysis (e.g., protein extraction, fractionation, immuno-depletion, trypsin digestion, alkylation, reduction, etc.)
• Perform HPLC separations and maintain HPLC instruments.
• Work with antibodies and peptide standards (immunoaffinity purification, immobilization on solid supports, screening hybridomas for mass spectrometry)
• Generate mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics data and maintain MS instruments.
• Contribute to the analysis of proteomic (mass spectrometry) datasets.
• Collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team spanning expertise in biology, analytical chemistry, clinical medicine, and statistics.
• Collaborate with others to develop new methods and tools that support research objectives.
• Maintain research results files and databases.
• Assist with written progress reports and development of standard operating protocols (SOP)
• Assist with writing scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.

Qualifications

Research Technician III Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in biological or chemical sciences, or master's degree in a related scientific field.
• Senior level position requiring extensive experience in a laboratory.
• The work is rigorously quantitative, and exquisite organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as the ability to adhere to standard operating protocols (SOP) and maintain records, are critical.
• The position includes drafting reports and manuscripts for publication, as well as presenting experimental results to the research team and collaborators. Thus, excellent English writing and oral communication skills are required.
• The position includes giving oral presentations at local meetings, on consortium teleconferences, and at national and international meetings; thus, excellent English oral communication skills are required.
• Experience with proteomics software tools (e.g., search algorithms, Skyline, etc) is required.
