Job Description
The BEST directorate is seeking a Research Technician to support our microbiology, biochemistry, and analytical chemistry research staff. This is an on-site, in-person 50% time (20 h/week) position. Primary duties include:
- Ordering supplies and chemicals
- Tracking consumable inventories and maintaining stock
- Monitoring, collecting, autoclaving, disposing, and reporting of biowaste and biohazardous waste
- Sterilizing and stocking common glassware (autoclave)
- Coordinating regular sterilization runs for media in the autoclaves
- Light maintenance and calibration of basic laboratory equipment (pH meters, YSI instruments)
- Maintaining basic stocks of common buffers, reagents, and microbiological media
- Light laboratory cleaning: recycling boxes, disposing of packing materials, defrosting freezers
- Support glassware/dishwashing staff when needed by cleaning

Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Associate's Degree or certification program of comparable scope and 2 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Substantial acquaintance with and understanding of general aspects of the job with a broad understanding of the detailed aspects of the job. Intermediate to advanced skills in research techniques and practices. Good written, verbal, team, interpersonal and communication skills.* Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.
Additional Required Qualifications
Level I:
High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Associate's Degree or certification program of comparable scope or equivalent relevant education/experience. An acquaintance with and understanding of some/all of the general support activities listed above. Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and customer relations skills. Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and Excel.
Level II:
High School Diploma or equivalent and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Associate's Degree or certification program of comparable scope and 1 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.
