Research Support, Tailings Center and Mining Engineering Department

The Tailings Center within the Mining Engineering department at Colorado School of Mines is hiring for a part-time leadership position in research support.

This role focuses on co-leading the Tailings Center, which is a consortium of three universities including University of Arizona and Colorado State University, led by Mines, as well as providing guidance on the development and delivery of courses for undergraduate and graduate curriculum and short courses in Tailings and Mine Closure, and contributing to the department's service.

Responsibilities:

25% Tailings Center & 25% Mining Department

Academic Responsibilities: 10%

• Provide guidance on content for academic and short course curriculum that integrates cutting-edge industry practices and recent technological advancements

Research and Center Leadership: 20%

• Leadership in the Tailings Center as co-director, overseeing research initiatives and strategic planning
• Develop and secure research funding through grants, industry partnerships, and federal/state sources
• Facilitate interdisciplinary research collaborations within Mines and with external institutions
• Co-manage center operations, budgets, and administrative functions

Industry Engagement: 10%

• Serve as a bridge between academic research and industry best practices
• Develop partnerships with mining companies, environmental agencies, and technology providers
• Organize workshops, symposiums, and professional development events

Professional Service: 10%

• Represent Tailings Center and Mining Engineering at professional conferences and industry events
• Contribute to professional organizations related to mining, environmental engineering, and tailings management
• Support student professional development and career placement
• Advise on emerging technologies and sustainability practices in mine waste management

Minimum Qualifications:

• MS, Civil-Geotechnical Engineering
• Professional Engineer (PE)
• Leadership experience in Tailings and Water Management
