Job Description

Purpose:
Lingraphica seeks a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Specialist to join our research team for temporary project work (approximately 9 months full-time and could extend longer) to work as part of a research study. As a Research Specialist at Lingraphica, you will assist our collaborative partner (a state University) in recruiting and screening participants to record speech samples.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Execute research studies  

  • Collaborate with the principal investigator and research team to design and implement studies (user testing, focus groups, semi-structured interviews) that address fundamental research questions about understanding user behavior 

  • Provide knowledge when administering, carrying out and analyzing experiments or studies 

  • Administer protocols, recruit participants, and collect data using ethical guidelines and research standards 

Administrative Assistant Intake Pre-Screening  

  • Assist with initial screening of potential participants when notified by UIUC and schedule subsequent appointments 

  • Interface with participants and mentors 

  • Aid the project coordinator as needed 

Mentor 

  • Work directly or indirectly with participants to aid them in the consent process and participation in the program 

  • Assess speech and other criteria of enrolled participants to determine if participant can enroll 

  • Assist with the consent process, recording speech prompts, and follow-up with participants as needed to address concerns or challenges 

  • Answer participant questions as needed; follow-up and maintain participant contact throughout enrollment 

Mentor Screening of Rejected Participants 

  • Do a rigorous assessment of speech and other criteria even for those who are rejected from the study

May be required to perform other duties as assigned  

Qualifications

Education & Experience: 

  • Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology
  • SLP License and CCC required
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of clinical experience required; in the area of speech language pathology or speech disorders strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of research experience strongly preferred 
  • Experience presenting at professional conferences

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Ability to implement and execute a research study
  • Knowledge of critical analysis of research studies
  • Knowledge of AAC practices, needs, and challenges, strongly preferred
  • Completion of CIRTIfication training required (we’ll provide access to this training and it must be completed at the start of the project)
  • Demonstration of knowledge and experience of research regulatory requirements with human subjects
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, oral communication and public speaking skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Analytical skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making
