Job Description Summary

The Dowling Lab focuses on childhood muscle diseases, particularly muscle disorders that present in infancy, including congenital myopathies and congenital muscular dystrophies. Using a combinatorial approach that includes new gene discovery, model organism development, viral and non-viral gene therapies, and both targeted and large-scale screening drug discovery approaches, the Dowling lab is dedicated to uncovering disease mechanisms and advancing therapy development.

Job Responsibilities

We are seeking an entry level research specialist (post BS). The successful candidate will have: 
-Experience in mouse handling and behavioral assays
-Experience in tissue dissection and tissue histology 
-Significant molecular biology knowledge and understand of well-controlled experimental setup.
Duties in lab will include:
-Assisting with maintenance and husbandry of the Dowling lab mouse colony
-Assisting with a variety of mouse experiments, including behavioral assays, dosing and dissection, and performing tissue processing and histology (all with appropriate training provided)
-Involvement in lab organization and basic day-to-day maintenance tasks.
-Careful record keeping and notetaking, particularly in regard to animal colony management

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• Undergraduate experience in mouse handling, tissue handling, histology and basic molecular biology preferred
• Collaborative attitude and willingness to learn new techniques under the supervision of qualified lab staff.
• Ability to work independently after sufficient training provided by lab staff
• Strong organizational and recording keeping skills.
• Desire to learn new techniques and biological concepts.

Position is contingent upon continued funding.
