As a Research Engineer in Aerodynamics & Thermosciences, you will contribute to the design, development, and validation of energy/thermal management components and systems, multiphysics analytical and computational modeling of components and systems, and the design and development of additive manufactured thermal components.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Apply your knowledge in energy/thermal management systems to develop innovative solutions to control thermal loads in complex power and electrification systems which could include gas power, power conversion, wind, and nuclear systems.
- Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team of GE Vernova product engineers, R&D team members, and external partners to invent and mature the next generation of energy/thermal management technology.
- Utilize your experience in modeling, simulation, and/or experimentation to characterize and/or validate novel energy/thermal management components and systems
- Contribute to the development and writing of internal and external proposals
- Establish and grow an external network of collaborators in academia, government, and industry.
- Patent your inventions and develop a record of publication via conferences and peer reviewed journals.
Required Qualifications
- Doctorate degree in Mechanical, Energy, Energy Systems or related discipline, or master’s degree in mechanical, Energy, Energy Systems, or related discipline with 5 years of relevant experience
- Fundamental knowledge of fluid mechanics and heat transfer applied to thermal management problems
- Experience in thermal/energy management systems and/or component development
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interface with senior leaders and customers with clarity and confidence
- Due to the nature of the work, this role requires U.S. citizenship
- Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY
- Must be 18 years or older

Desired Characteristics
3+ years of work experience in an industrial or laboratory setting with demonstrated capabilities in development and evaluation of thermal management technologies
Experience leading and/or contributing to projects funded by government agencies such as Department of Energy, Department of Defense etc.
In-depth knowledge of component and system thermal modeling and/or multiphysics system modeling
Experience developing analytical component and system models using tools such as EES, Matlab, Python, etc.
Familiarity with the application of computational fluid mechanics and thermal analysis tools such as Ansys Mechanical, Fluent, CFX, etc.
Experience in modeling electric machines to estimate thermal loads, and develop innovative thermal solutions for the same.
Experience in developing thermal and/or system test rigs with in-depth knowledge of instrumentation methods, leading and conducting evaluation of component/system tests, data acquisition, and inferencing and reporting of test data
Knowledge of model verification and validation, model calibration, and uncertainty quantification.
Department of Defense (DoD) Top Secret Security Clearance
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
