The Department of Neurology has an outstanding opportunity for Research Coordinator 1 to join their team. 

About this Opportunity 

Reporting to Dr. Justin Miller, the Research Coordinator 1 is responsible for coordinating participant-facing and operational activities for research studies focused on understanding factors associated with brain resilience. The position serves as a primary liaison between participants, research staff, and laboratory partners to support high-quality data and biospecimen collection while fostering positive long-term participant relationships. The position will support a new multidisciplinary initiative focusing on brain health, cognitive aging, and resilience among community-dwelling adults and older adults throughout the Pacific Northwest.


Key Responsibilities

Protocol Management (35%):

  • Coordinate daily research activities for one or more funded studies, including scheduling visits, managing study calendars, and tracking milestones
  • Prepare and maintain IRB submissions, amendments, consent forms, and continuing review materials
  • Coordinate with UW offices (e.g., Human Subjects Review Committee, Grant and Contract Services, Environmental Health & Safety, Clinical Research Budget and Billing) to ensure regulatory compliance and timely study implementation
  • Document and maintain study policies and procedures in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines

Study Participant Coordination (35%):

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for research participants, investigators, and collaborating sites
  • Screen, recruit, consent, and enroll participants in accordance with approved protocols
  • Conduct participant interviews, assessments, and questionnaires
  • Track participant progress to ensure completion of protocol-required activities
  • Support biospecimen collection, processing, documentation, and transfer

Research Data Management (25%):

  • Collect, enter, and manage study data in collaboration with investigators and study staff
  • Maintain accurate participant records and secure electronic databases

Other Duties (5%).

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, humanities, health management, a scientific discipline, nursing, psychology, or a related field and one year of relevant research or clinical experience

Additional Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a goal-oriented research environment
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities
  • Experience conducting research involving human subjects
  • Familiarity with REDCap or similar data management systems
  • Knowledge of ethical conduct of human subjects research and IRB processes
  • Experience working with diverse populations or in community-based research settings
  • Ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary research teams
  • Experience coordinating studies in an academic research environment

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum:

$55,944.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum:

$69,600.00 annual
