About the role

Your experience includes… 

  • BS/MS with 0-3 years of experience in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or related discipline.
  • Technical understanding and experience in mRNA process development including mRNA synthesis, purification and analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with in vitro transcription (IVT) and mRNA purification technologies (beads or columns).
  • Understanding of nucleic acid biochemistry, enzymatic and chemical reactions, PCR reaction, plasmid processing, and standard analytical techniques for macromolecules is preferred.
  • Track record of completing deliverables within specified timelines.
  • Eager to work with highly skilled and dynamic teams in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and technical setting
  • The successful candidate should be collaborative, communicative, and passionate about the next generation of genetic medicines.

Preferred Qualifications…

  • Experience in using analytical technologies including nanodrop, Tape station, Lunatic, Fragment analyzer, capillary electrophoresis. 
  • Experience with magnetic beads and column-based mRNA purification (HPLC, AKTA).
  • Experience with handling automated systems like Kingfisher, TECAN, Hamilton, or a desire to learn.
  • Experience with Design of Experiment (DOE) statistical tools for process improvement.

You are interested in… 

  • Develop and innovate mRNA synthesis using enzyme catalyzed reactions such as restriction digestion, in vitro transcription (IVT) and mRNA purification.
  • Learn and execute automation instruments including liquid handlers (TECAN, Kingfisher) for automated high throughput miniature reactions and purification.
  • Analyze mRNA quality by nanodrop, tape station, fragment analyzer etc.
  • Support the generation of preclinical mRNA high quality material and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain thorough electronic lab notebooks and documentation records (e.g. Benchling).
  • Adhere to all laboratory safety requirements and procedures.

About you: 

Tessera Therapeutics is seeking a Research Associate / Senior Research Associate for RNA process development and innovation. You will support process development for in vitro transcription, modification, and purification of RNAs to support Tessera's pre-clinical efforts. We seek scientists who are proactive, enthusiastic, and show a passion for process development. The successful candidate should have strong communication and collaboration skills. Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational and documentation skills are highly desirable.

Jack Chu – Senior Scientist, mRNA Process Development

Jack has more than 10 years of experience in nucleic acid biochemistry including structural biology, synthesis (enzymatically and chemically), purification, and analysis. He joined Tessera in 2021 focusing on process improvement and innovation for different types of RNA for Tessera’s gene writing technologies. He received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Duke and conducted his postdoctoral training in RNA drug discovery and RNA-based gene editing at Duke and The University of Chicago. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, hiking, and cooking.

Narissa Furtado-Cordeiro - Manager, Talent Acquisition 

Narissa joined the Biotechnology industry shortly after graduating with her BS in Marketing from Franklin Pierce University. She is currently pursuing a MS in Legal Studies from Northeastern University School of Law while working full time as a Manager in Talent Acquisition at Tessera. She is passionate about helping individuals find a fulfilling opportunity while considering their interests, aspirations and technical skills. Narissa lives in Northern Vermont and enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, three-year-old daughter and German Shepherd.
