The Role:
Lila Sciences is seeking a thoughtful and dynamic Research Associate or Scientist in heterogeneous catalysis to join our physical sciences team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting applied research and supporting the development of new catalytic materials and processes. They will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to design, execute, and analyze experiments aimed at improving catalytic performance and efficiency. This role provides a unique opportunity to engage in innovative research and development activities and make a tangible impact within the field of heterogeneous catalysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and execute experiments to investigate thermocatalytic processes.
- Synthesize, characterize, and evaluate novel catalytic materials.
- Analyze experimental data and interpret results to identify trends and generate hypotheses.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and publications to communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including chemists, engineers, and project managers, to advance project goals.
- Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Stay up-to-date with current scientific literature and technologies related to heterogeneous catalysis.
- Participate in troubleshooting and problem-solving activities to optimize experimental protocols.
- Work with the machine learning (ML) team to generate machine representations of thermocatalysis workflows
- Work with automation and ML teams to establish ML-driven thermocatalysis workflows
Qualifications:
- Research Associate: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Scientist: Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Prior research experience in catalysis, preferably with flow reactors, is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in relevant laboratory techniques such as catalytic testing, material synthesis, and characterization methods (e.g., XRD, SEM, TEM, BET).
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to work with complex datasets.
- Excellent organizational skills with a high attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and creativity in experimental design.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with high-temperature batch and flow reactors and related equipment.
- Knowledge of computational modeling and data analysis software.
- Familiarity with industrial catalytic processes and applications.
- Proven track record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.
