Research Associate, Physiology/Pharmacology

This role has overall responsibility for research projects related to the molecular epi(genetic) mechanisms underlying risk for and consequences of addiction. The research is multidisciplinary, integrating computational and experimental approaches to understand genomic regulation of addiction.
Required Experience and Education
- PhD, MD or MD/PhD in behavioral neuroscience, bioinformatics, computer science, neuroscience, cell/molecular biology, genetics or related field
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in bioinformatic analysis of next-generation epigenetic data.
- Experience submitting jobs in a cluster computing environment.
- Experience with functional (epi)genomic and transcriptomic analysis; training in genetics/genomics, computer science, bioinformatics
Required Job Knowledge and Experience
- Successful research in a computational field demonstrated by co-authorship on at least one publication.
- Experience with functional (epi) genomic and transcriptomic analysis.
- Bioinformatics and biostatistical skills and experience with functional genomic analysis; a strong interested in (epi) genetic/genomic risk factors in drug and alcohol use disorders and/or comorbid traits.
- Strong programming experience (R, Python, Matlab, Perl or other languages for research)
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to plan, document, analyze and report data; highly motivated and organized, proven capability of time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a variety of diverse staff, co-workers, investigators.
- Independence and competence to perform data management and analysis, ability to prioritize work demands and to coordinate and document research findings with other staff.
- Quality control and review of data skills.
- High level of self-motivation and integrity.
- Creative, thinks out-side-the-box, in developing fit-for-purpose solutions for data needs.
- Familiarity with foundational statistical concepts in bioinformatics. Comfort with working alongside expert biostatisticians and incorporating their suggestions.
- Organizational skills and careful attention to details to satisfactorily perform job duties.
- Experience in Illumina-based sequence analysis.
- Experience with cluster-based computing.
- Experience interrogating various next generation sequencing (NGS) datatypes and the interaction among them (eg RNA-seq, ATAC-seq/DNase-seq, ChIP-seq, GRO-seq/PRO-seq, ChIA-PET/HiChIP) to study gene regulation. Knowledge of biological pathway resources and mastery of appropriate analysis methods.
- This person also must be able to work independently, to problem solve, to produce clear documentation of work, to produce graphical summaries of data, to contribute to the writing of manuscripts, and grant applications.
