FAES | School of Environment and Natural ResourcesThe hydrochemistry lab at the School of Environment and Natural Resources is recruiting a Research Associate to join a research team studying nanobubble ozone technology treatments of harmful algal blooms. The Research Associate will actively work with the multidisciplinary project team, under the supervision of the project principle investigators, to design and perform the research experiments. They will collect environmental water samples and perform laboratory analyses of nutrients and dissolved organic matter. They may also assist with collection and analysis of ozone and algal samples as needed. In this role they will train and mentor undergraduate researchers and new graduate students in field and lab protocols and data analysis.
The Research Associate will help coordinate data management across the project lab groups. They will be in charge of analyzing dissolved organic matter (DOM) using fluorescence spectroscopy and statistical tools including parallel factor analysis. They will process the DOM data, including preparation of graphs and figures and participate in publications and project reports.
Required education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, chemistry, environmental engineering, ecology, or equivalent experience required; 3 years of relevant experience required with Associate’s Degree, or 1 year of relevant experience required with Bachelor’s Degree.
Desired education: Master’s level degree in environmental science, chemistry, environmental engineering, ecology, or equivalent including experience in research related to water quality.
Desired qualifications: Fieldwork experience collecting and filtering environmental water
samples. Demonstrated ability with analytical chemistry techniques used for analyzing water quality. Experience with analysis of dissolved organic matter chemistry. Experience managing research samples and data. Statistical data analysis with Microsoft Excel and either R, Matlab, or Python. Experience making scientific figures, presenting scientific results, and writing project reports or manuscripts. Must be able to travel to and stay at field sites for up to 2 weeks a few times a year.

The pay range for this profile is $51,500.00- $67,250.00/annual salary. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications
