Biochemistry & Molecular Biology has an exciting opportunity for a full time Research Associate 2 position. The incumbent supports research activities under the direction of a principle investigator, program director or designee of the principle investigator or program director.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                                                         

• Performs specialized and complex experiments/studies.

• Participates in the publication of significant research results.

• Advances expertise through education, training, and research.

• Writes extramural grants/proposals to gain support when appropriate.

• Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens and tissue cultures.

• Weighs and anesthetizes laboratory animals for experiments.

• Operates sensitive and highly complex laboratory equipment.

• Performs calculations to complete research test results.

• Performs photography and dark room processing.

• Participates in training sessions and workshops.

• Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Core Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field

• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

Department Specific Functions
1.    Manage and coordinate all aspects of the ongoing research project under Peter Lyon.
2.    Oversee revisions for a paper currently under consideration at Nature Communications.
3.    Monitor and manage a colony of mice on various dietary treatments, ensuring their well-being and proper care.
4.    Administer bi-weekly drug injections to the mice as per the research protocol.
5.    Process primary leukemia tissues from mice for experimental analysis.
6.    Analyze experimental results, preparing data for presentations, reports, and publications.
7.    Handle daily lab operations, including ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, and ensuring the availability of all necessary materials.
8.    Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
9.    Prepare and manage buffers and reagents needed for ongoing experiments.
10.    Ensure that the laboratory adheres to all safety regulations and protocols.
11.    Assist in training and mentoring new lab personnel and students on lab protocols and procedures
