A Research Assistant position is available immediately in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, School of Graduate Studies at Meharry Medical College.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research focused on cardiometabolic diseases and vision.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join our dynamic biomedical research team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 1-2 years of experience working in a biomedical research laboratory setting. This role requires proficiency in standard RNA and protein monitoring procedures, microscopy and in vitro and in vivo and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic research environment.

Daily Operations

  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigator to design and conduct research projects
  • Assist graduate students and junior researchers in the laboratory (provide technical guidance on data analysis, and manuscript preparation)
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks, and equipment to compliance with key governing agencies (e.g., biosafety, chemical safety, IACUC, etc.)
  • Collaborate on interdisciplinary projects (integrate various types of data and methodologies)

Required Skills

  • Conduct standard RNA and protein monitoring procedures.
  • Assist in the design and execution of experiments.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure project goals are met.
  • Contribute to the preparation of research reports and publications.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology).
  • 1-2 years of experience in a biomedical research laboratory setting.
  • Proficiency in standard RNA and protein monitoring procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic research environment.
