Hours: 37.50 Weekly
Wage range: $38.17 - $39.02 per hour (start rate non-negotiable)
Status: Permanent Full-Time
Shifts: Traditional Days 0730-1930, Nights 1930-0730, every other weekend, Holidays

Position Summary
As a member of the UHN and the Nursing Multi-disciplinary Team, the Registered Nurse practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession.
As a member of the Toronto Western Emergency Department & Seniors Emergency Medicine Centre (SEMC), the REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE will be assigned to work in all areas of the Emergency Department including SEMC in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, the UHN Professional Practice Model and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN. The RPN will provide compassionate, collaborative and competent care, while meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession
The 50-bed Emergency Department at TWH is a highly acute and challenging setting for nursing practice. The ED has designated areas for fastrack, subacute and acute care to accommodate up to 50 patients with additional 15 beds for the Senior Emergency Medicine Centre (SEMC) which is opening November 2026. For a total of 65 beds in the Emergency Department/SEMC. The SEMC aims to provide specialized senior care for adults 65 years and older. Due to the diverse nature of patients seen, nurses use a wide variety of clinical skills including critical thinking. Direct links with other EMS personnel as well as hospital and community services promotes and fosters an atmosphere of teamwork.
Duties
- Demonstrates knowledge and critical thinking in the application of the process, as it relates to scope of practice, to organize and deliver exemplary patient care.
- Provides specialized senior care for adults 65 years and older
- Outcomes are predictable and risk of negative outcomes is low Identifies and recognizes abnormal or unusual patient responses and consults and collaborates with the Registered Nurse or other members of the health care team appropriately, and when necessary, safely transfers care to the RN when necessary
- Provides aspects of care for highly complex patients when in close consultation with the Registered Nurse directing the patient´s care
- Ensuring practice is consistent with professional standards and the ethical framework as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the UHN policy and procedure
- Demonstrating commitment to professional life long learning by participating in continuing education activities to meet the needs of the patient population served and the standards of the profession
- Performing reflective practice, analyzing and evaluating nursing knowledge and modifying practice accordingly to improve the quality of nursing and patient care
- Performing cross-functional and other responsibilities, as assigned and/or requested.
Qualifications
- Completion of college, or other approved Registered Practical Nursing program including practicum experience
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
