Matrix Providers is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) PICU to join our team of talented professionals who provide health care services to our Military Service Members and their families in Tacoma, WA.

  • Employment Status: Full-time: Anticipated July 1, 2026 start
  • Compensation: This is an hourly position.
  • Schedule:
    • Day Shift Duty Hours: 0700 - 1930; 0700 – 1730; 0700-1530; 0900-1930, 1100-1930; 0600-1630; 0900-1730; 0900-2130; 1100-2130;1200-2030; 0800-1630; 0830-1700; 0900-1730; 0930-1800; 1030-1900; 0530-1800
    • Evening Shift Schedules: 1100-2330; 1500-2330; 1500-0330; 1000-2230; 1200-0030;1500-0330; 1300-2330; 1300-2130; 1700-2330
    • Night Shift Schedules: 1900-0330; 1900-0730; 2300-0730; 2100-0730
  • 4-hour shifts may be implemented into the duty hours if needed by the unit

Floating: HCW’s will be required to float within similar specialties and clinical clusters with appropriate assignments for which they have demonstrated competency. If the nurse is needed back on their unit due to increase in patient census or emergencies, the nurse may be required to transfer care to another nurse on that unit and return to their assigned unit.

Low Census: When a unit has a significant decrease in the number of patients, the contract nurse may be offered the opportunity to float to another unit. If floating is not an option, the contractor shall be placed on Low Census and sent home. Payment will not be made for those hours not worked.

Requirements: The Registered Nurse (RN) PICU must have and meet the following:

  • Degree/Education: A diploma, Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate in Nursing from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
  • Experience: One year of qualifying experience as an RN and one year of qualifying experience in this specialty.
  • Licensure: Contract workers requiring licensure shall have and maintain a current, valid, unrestricted license specific to the position (with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions) in one of the 50 US States and/or territories. Additional licenses held by a provider must be in good standing whether they are inactive, expired, or limit the provider’s practice to a military setting. The healthcare provider’s license(s) must remain current, valid, and unrestricted throughout the duration of the contract worker performance on the contract.
  • Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: Advanced Life Support (ALS) health care provider course or an equivalent course based on published national guidelines and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Job Summary:

  • Contract nurses providing services under this contract shall perform the clinical duties as identified in the PWS and within their scope of practice. All nurses may be rotated throughout MAMC’s areas however they will not be required to work outside their scope of practice.
  • Performs critical care duties to include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating age specific nursing care across all ages. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the interrelationship of body systems in maintaining and restoring health.
  • The PICU nurse shall provide labor intensive care to a variety of patients with numerous complex medical and surgical pathologies.
  • Clinical documentation according to standard operating procedures including obtaining patient history, pertinent family history and advanced medical directive information.
  • Observes, assesses, and records symptoms, reactions, and progress; assists physicians during treatments and examinations; administer medication; administer prescribed treatments, completes admissions, and discharges, and promotes convalescence and rehabilitation. RNs are responsible for monitoring and interpretation of collected data by the LPNs and unlicensed assisted personnel, informing the medical staff as appropriate.
  • Functions as a patient advocate. Assesses patient/family knowledge level, develops, and implements a plan of instruction and documents demonstrated level of understanding. Assessment plans will be targeted at age specific needs. Each nurse
