About the role

The Registered Nurse primary purpose of this position is to provide patient care in the general clinic and specialty areas of psychiatry, urgent care and gynecology. This position will provide telephone and walk- in triage, as well as supervision consultation and guidance of nursing staff. 

Student Health and Wellness Center (SHWC) is a primary care medical clinic for USF students.  Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and nurses provide medical evaluation and care by appointment.  Specialty services include, sexual health & gynecology, dermatology, behavioral health, sports medicine, travel medicine and antigen clinic.  Pharmacy and Lab services are available on site.  We also assist students with immunization and insurance compliance, and administer the student health insurance plan.  

Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse  in compliance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes or eligibility to practice nursing in accordance with Chapter 64 B9, Florida Administrative Code. Must have a American Heart Basic life support for Health care Providers certification.

  • Perform telephone and walk-in triage of patients, determining level of care required and facilitate medical treatment, referral and follow up care as needed. Follow up on phone calls, complete health forms, assist with lab results reporting process, and complete reportable disease forms. Nursing fax folder, complete prior authorizations and assist with medication refill per protocol. Review nurse line reports as needed. 
  • Provide general nursing care to patients to include: provision of nursing care in urgent care, general medicine, psychiatry and sexual health and gynecology clinics. Administration of medication/ IV therapy with Phlebotomy. Perform as primary floor supervisor for Health Clinic.  Provide consultation and guidance to licensed practical nurses(LPN) and medical assistants(MA). 
  • Monitor medication inventory, monitor infection disease rounds in the clinic, assisting with Quality Studies, and monitor/log AED protocol. Monitor staff assignments. Complete PSO for all ER transfers and follow up per protocol. Report PSO reports to Assistant Director of Nursing. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Nursing. 

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires licensure as a registered nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes, or eligibility to practice nursing in accordance with Chapter 64 B9, Florida Administrative Code.
 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Florida licensure as a Registered Nurse practical nurse, BLS and IV certification and competency in phlebotomy. At least five years of nursing experience in primary care, urgent care, college health or inpatient hospital setting.
