Job Description:

This position oversees all aspects of patient care for Nursing and Patient Care Services (including respiratory care, care management, and other patient care services as applicable) at the assigned hospital/region as well as nursing professional practice oversight and/or appropriate leadership collaboration, development and partnerships throughout the communities in which the assigned hospitals/etc. is located (including acute, ambulatory, home health and long term care nursing).

The Regional Nursing Director – CAH works directly with the hospital administrative leader within the CAH, the associated regional leadership model and collaboratively with Market Chief Nursing Officer and Associate Chief Nurse Officer (as applicable) to guide nursing’s growth, clinical practice, staffing effectiveness, and patient satisfaction. Additionally, the role coordinates activities between defined areas and provides clinical and administrative leadership and expertise; facilitates an atmosphere of interactive leadership and the development of collegial relationships among nursing personnel and both interdisciplinary and interprofessional team members and has major responsibility for the implementation of the vision, mission, plans, and standards of the organization and nursing services within defined areas of responsibility.

Education Qualifications:

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Masters in Nursing, Health Care Administration, Finance, or related field (or expected graduation of Masters within 6 months of hire)

Required Experience:

  • 5 years nursing experience
  • Minimum of 3 years in Progressive Nursing Leadership Roles, such as Nurse Supervisor or Nurse Manager positions
  • Proven experience with organizational change, program development, and process improvement techniques.

Required Skills:

  • Results oriented and engaged in collaborative goal setting.
  • Displays sound judgment and critical thinking.
  • Demonstrates time management skills, including prioritization, timely follow up and deadlines.
  • Quality performance monitoring, labor management, scheduling, clinical / contract and new hire processes.
  • Evidence of preparing and monitoring annual Nursing unit budgets.
  • Sound Fiscal Management skills.
  • Excellent inter-personal and inter-professional communications skills; in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships and connections locally and across a system of care.
  • Previous experience in a Matrix organization is a plus.
  • Previous experience with Pathways to Excellence Nursing program is a plus.
  • Active and unencumbered RN license in MN, WI or ND required (license requirement dependent on State location of CAH).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the fiscal and clinical operations of assigned hospital/locations.
  • Develops department budgets and financial analysis and planning of nursing resource in collaboration with CAH administrative leadership, regional administrative and nursing leadership and the Market CNO and/or Associate Chief Nursing Officer (as applicable).
  • Integrates department services with the hospital’s primary function maintaining communication with medical and nursing staff, Administration, patients and their families/significant other.
  • Coordinates and integrates services within and among departments and locations of care.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support provision of nursing and patient care services.
  • Supervises nursing staff and assures staff competency.  
  • Participates in Pathways to Excellence Nursing Journey and related initiatives.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment and improvement of the department’s performance.
  • Promotes the Quality Management program of the facility maintaining appropriate quality control programs (where applicable).
  • Oversees and drives performance in quality metrics, patient safety and clinical excellence initiatives aligned with the facility including, but not limited to, trauma designation, stroke readiness, etc.
  • Participates in strategic planning: Develops, markets, implements, and evaluates new services and programs recommending space and resources needed.
