We are looking for a Regional Category Buyer to join our Global Procurement team in Houston, TX.

Global Indirect Procurement (GPI) is respon­sible for purchasing technical goods and services for BASF Group. We under­stand the business needs, are close to our stake­holders, drive cost savings, inno­va­tion and sustainable practices by nego­tia­ting with suppliers and managing vendor relationships. 


As a Regional Category Buyer, you will be responsible for collaborating for achievement in multiple regional categories in North America such as Waste Management, Industrial Cleaning, Facility Management, and Resource Recovery. You will also be a key contributor in supporting some of BASF’s key sustainability efforts through BASF’s Chemical Recovery and Waste Minimization Program. We are seeking a professional like you to ensure competitive advantage for our business units as a member of our professional procurement team.  

As a Regional Category Buyer, you create chemistry by...

 

  • Leading and managing the sourcing process (RFI, RFQ, RFP, etc.) for multiple categories and cross-functional teams while upholding BASF Procurement policies for key strategic reimbursable or fixed price contracts.
  • Steering complex negotiations with suppliers and internal business partners with accountability for awarding and implementing contracts that provide a competitive advantage for BASF. You will also lead and support Project Negotiator efforts at multiple sites.
  • Providing relationship management for key suppliers and internal stakeholders which includes monitoring performance metrics, resolving claims and/or disputes.
  • Conducting market intelligence research by interacting with key suppliers, industry associations, and internal stakeholders to collect industry relevant information and rationalizing it to assess the current and future impact to BASF.
  • Evaluating incoming commercial offers and supporting the bonus/penalty evaluation process.
  • Supporting the Regional Category Manager in the development of category strategies and providing local market input related to supply and demand market dynamics.

If you...

 

  • Have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering, Marketing, Business, Supply Chain, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
  • Possess 3+ years of professional experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering/Operations, Accounting and/or Sales and Marketing. Experience in the chemical industry or manufacturing, and experience in negotiating service contracts (e.g. reimbursable and fixed price) are desired
  • Are proficient in market knowledge, strategy development, and implementation with a demonstrated commercial approach and strategic mindset to deliver business value
  • Have strong entrepreneurial drive with the ability to lead and influence others, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to manage relationships with internal business partners as well as suppliers.
  • Are team-oriented and capable of working in a multi-task environment with the ability to make and implement decisions with limited information
