The Regional Account Manager (RAM) reports to the Commercial Operations Director (COD) and is responsible for managing all aspects of the purchase of ferrous (FE) steel Commodities in support of a specific processing facility or a designated geographical area. Additionally, the RAM will work with the NF Commercial Operations Manager on supporting the purchasing of NF metals with his/her Commercial team. The incumbent oversees the daily activities of the individual buyers that constitute the buying group. The RAM ensures that the buying group’s activities and deliverables support the regional monthly “Buy Plan” set forth by the COD.
In addition to their own “book of business”, the RAM manages the buyers as assigned by the COD and actively participates and ensures buyers are following their monthly “Plan of Action” for FE and NF. The incumbent drives business growth by concentrating on identifying new markets; stimulating current supplier sources; ensuring that all buyers provide weekly professional reports that document specific contacts with existing suppliers, and disseminating results of their efforts to expand the supplier base with new contacts, pertinent information regarding the suppliers’ inventories and concerns expressed by the supplier that may reflect positively or negatively on Radius operations. The RAM ensures the buying group is trained to use the Material Processing System (SAI). The RAM evaluates the performance of the buyer team to ensure satisfactory performance of: tracking material purchases, supplier performance and profitability.
This position operates within somewhat flexible parameters and works with the COD (who has the final word) to determine and set Commodity pricing strategies; resolve regional supplier / territory disputes and collaborates with the COD to determine the appropriate approach required to increase market share. The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of Commercial operations. Providing the highest quality product safely, effectively and efficiently while increasing profits.
Essential Functions:
Environmental and Health & Safety (H&S)
- Ensures safe work practices and equipment are used at all times and that documentation and current practices are in accordance with corporate safety policies, OSHA and other regulatory guidelines. In addition, provide a safe environment for all employees, customers and vendors.
- Communicates and reinforces MRB’s position on scrap acceptance in line with Environmental Heath and Safety regulations.
Operational Performance & Best Management Practices
- Gleans information relative to market conditions that may affect the processing facility. Communicates this information to key facility management personnel and the buying group, in a consistent format and manner.
- Ensures that departmental Buy Plan and individual goals are met.
- Collaborates with the Commercial Operations Director regarding current Commodity pricing structure.
- Reviews daily target reports, previous daily receipts, and month-to-date progress reports with the buyers.
- Ensures all assigned buyers gain a full understanding of the local and regional Competition and their pricing structure to determine the Competitor supplier base. Directs buyers to validate and analyze the impact of the Competition on the execution of the monthly “Buy Plan”.
- Oversees all supplier accounts, and assigns, or reassigns these accounts among buyers to ensure a proper balance of work and geographical areas. Assigns supplier accounts to each buyer so that they have a defined “Book of Business”. Conducts monthly review of supplier performance and profitability for all accounts with each buyer.
Inventory & Quality Control
- Works directly with the feeder and joint venture facility managers and buyers to ensure the proper quality and quantity of material is supplied from these locations and that material flows into the facility strategically.
- Ensures all buying and plant inspection personnel understand and adhere to Radius’s published specifications for received material. Educates, Communicates and enforces these specifications to all personnel and the supplier base.
- Manages the entire process / flow of recyclable material from supplier to facility to achieve the timely movement of material into the facility. Liaises with the Regional Logistics Manager to plan all inbound movement of materials to facilitate optimal freight rates. Coordinates with suppliers, delivering carriers, and General Managers to create schedules for delivery of material to each facility. Facilitates and ensures process workload efficiencies and facilities capacity.
