JOB DUTIES

This is a management position within the Farmington Parks and Recreation Department. This position will provide superior management and oversight of a comprehensive community recreation program for the department, including youth and adult programs, special events, and sports. This position oversees all programs, operations, and staff at the Farmington Recreation Center and Sycamore Park Community Center, and at satellite facilities such as the sports complex, tennis courts, tennis complex, and sports fields.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Works under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Recreation.

Responsible for all operations at the Recreation Center and Sycamore Park Community Center, and for recreation activities at the sports complex, baseball and softball fields, soccer fields, and outside agency facilities used in community recreation programming.

Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.

Responsible for the overall coordination, administration, implementation, and management of recreation programs and activities. Provides oversight to a comprehensive recreation program and related youth and adult activities including community-wide special events; special interest classes; summer youth and adult classes; youth and adult sports; community centers; ball field reservations; park and playground programs; after-school programs; cultural programs (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) for all segments of the community. Provides management oversight, coordination, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of recreation programs, activities, and projects.

Develops, prepares, and justifies a budget for areas of responsibility. Controls and accounts for the expenditure of funds in accordance with the approved budget. Recommends charges for fee-based programs. Responsible for facility fees collected for the Recreation Division, league fees, and fees collected for special recreation events.

Recruits, selects, and supervises quality Recreation Division personnel. Plans, organizes, leads, and controls the work of professional and support staff.

Plans and coordinates the summer recreation program. Evaluates the program each year to delete poorly attended classes and replace and add new classes of interest to participating youth.

Hires and trains instructors and assistants for summer recreation program.

Responsible for ticket sales for the Connie Mack World Series, including counting and depositing ticket proceeds. May serve as administrator for the Connie Mack World Series.

Oversees subordinates in the proper use of the Division's social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and webpages in partnership with the City of Farmington Marketing Department.

Performs or assists subordinates in performing duties, adjusts errors and complaints, and maintains harmony among workers.

Effectively promotes and represents the Parks and Recreation Department in the community. May serve as an advisor on numerous sports league boards throughout the city. Responds to public inquiries about recreation programs made by telephone, email, correspondenceor during public meetings.

Oversees, coordinates, schedules, and maintains related records and statistics for programs and personnel in the Recreation Division.

Communicates official plans, policies, and procedures to staff and the general public.

Responsible for updating or revising existing policies and procedures to accommodate the changing needs of patrons.

Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.
