About the role:

As an R&D Sustaining Engineering Intern, your role is focused on optimizing and sustaining commercial products that diagnose and treat peripheral vascular disease. This role offers a unique chance to gain exposure to a wide variety of products through support of design improvement and supply continuity objectives.  You will build relationships with professionals in a diverse range of fields, inspiring people to embrace a culture of continuous improvement. Your responsibilities will include:  

 

As a Sustaining R&D Intern at Boston Scientific, you may perform work in the following areas:

  • Design and Testing: Assist in design change activities to improve or maintain supply of commercial products including solution strategy, conducting feasibility studies, and performing testing.
  • Problem-Solving and Compliance: Support investigations into failure modes, perform root cause analyses, and develop solutions to address technical challenges. Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project management, marketing, design assurance, manufacturing, and regulatory affairs, to ensure successful project execution.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and review engineering documentation, including design change analysis, technical reports, design history files, and regulatory submissions. Present project updates and technical insights to engineers and managers.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Must graduate between Fall 2026 and Spring 2028
  • Must have at least one semester of school left post-internship
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Must be able to commit to one of the following full internship program periods: May 18th – August 7th OR May 26th – August 14th
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the Maple Grove, MN Boston Scientific Corporate location
  • Experience collaborating on an engineering project in school or in a professional environment

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent problem solving, communication, and time management skills
  • Biomedical or anatomy experience and/or aptitude
  • Basic understanding of design controls and risk management within the medical device industry
