Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

In Division Quality, we proactively address customer quality needs, including developing methods and procedures designed to ensure that Corning’s products meet specifications and that Corning specifications meet/exceed customer requirements. This role focuses on minimizing customer risk by ensuring product capability during initial development and on-going operations of new products and processes in OFC. This role ensures that QA/PQAs are developed and adhered to and updating those systems with new information. This role works closely with plant Quality organizations to support issue resolutions, Technology organizations to aid in new product PQA/QA development, and plant Engineering organizations for capability improvements.

 

Responsibilities

• Evaluate the impact of product, process and equipment changes on product attributes and quality architectures. 
• Support development of new cable technologies by designing quality architecture systems (PQA) and identifying and solving critical quality problems proactively.
• Ensure that Process Control and Process Discipline (PCPD) is built into processes/products.
• Perform risk assessments to drive early identification of vulnerabilities or quality issues. Then assigns ownership, and ensures implementation of actions to ensure improvement
• Ability to work across various functional groups on a daily basis to accomplish goals.
• Lead Worldwide quality deployments and customer resolutions.
• Support OFC Quality Systems by creating, maintaining, and executing the global strategy.
• Facilitate root cause analysis on products and processes not meeting specified standards and requirements. Drive resolutions to completion.
• Collaborates with development, engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.
• Perform experimental designs and data analysis.
• Instills a Quality oriented culture in which everyone feels ownership for Quality and acts accordingly

 

 Required Qualifications

• BS or MS in the following Engineering Disciplines: Materials, Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Ceramic Engineering
• 5+ years’ experience in Manufacturing Environment
• Track record of Quality minded decision making in former roles
• Good data collection and analysis skills; understanding of statistics and control charts; able to tell a story with data; makes decisions based on data.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and issues effectively.
• Proven self-starter – able to effectively manage high levels of uncertainty and change
• Ability to influence others outside of chain of command—locally and globally.
