Shared Ice Services (“SIS”), a newly created company that will provide essential support services to both of our two operating companies – Nichols Brothers Boat Builders and Everett Ship Repair, is seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Manager responsible for developing and administering the Company- wide and Yard-specific Quality Assurance Program. The successful candidate will have a record of defining and promoting a quality mindset across our entire company and its operating shipyards, working with cross-departmental leadership to deliver high quality project performance under budget and on schedule. The ideal candidate brings a commitment to quality and the experience necessary to take our QA department to the next level with respect to production quality, documentation, and growing readiness to take on enhanced Navy and government work.
What You will Do:
- Leads team of Testers, QA specialists, and staff by setting departmental objectives in line with overall business objectives, conducting performance reviews, and supporting employee development.
- Develop QA Team’s capabilities in Non-Destructive Testing (“NDT”).
- Conduct inspections, write quality processes/procedures, conduct internal audits, administer Corrective Actions, and conduct management reviews.
- Develops and manages total quality processes and programs, determining area for quality improvements and developing objectives and executing on plans to accomplish them
- Evaluate QMS policies and procedures to verify effectiveness, conformance with best practices as defined by industry standards and regulatory requirements and assure that stated practices are being communicated and followed.
- Inspect the vessels to meet the requirements of the specification, regulatory agencies, yards, and industry standards.
- Investigate quality related problems which involve the execution of studies, evaluations, analysis of information to determine possible cause and resolution of quality shipbuilding problems, and liaising between project managers, production managers, craft supervisors and regulatory agencies.
- Witness testing upon all completed work to ensure the ship’s complex system is restored and functioning to design requirements and all results are documented. Prepare written reports of any contract work that fails inspection.
- Verify by test or inspection, using sampling inspection or intensive product inspection techniques that project performance complies with requirements prior to acceptance.
- Document and issue corrective action reports
- Manage, evaluate and monitor any Contractor's quality program through review of their procedures, and ad hoc review via audits, checklists and other job aids.
- Represent ESR and NBBB as necessary for conference with NAVSEA and other Naval Shipyards on the development of new quality assurance program efforts and requirements.
- Develop and nurture excellent relationships with those in key positions in regulatory agencies.
- Train QA and production teams to fulfill all QMS manual policies and procedures.
- Monitors work in progress throughout shipyards, discussing current events (relevant to quality and production) with other company team members, and reviews weekly accomplishments and future plans with QA staff as required.
- Maintain logs, reports, CAR's (Corrective Actions), Test and Inspection Plans, and QMS policies up to date
- Directs activities for prevention of nonconformances by developing action plans, consulting, collaborating, and working as a liaison with other departments and internal/extern
