Position Overview:

As part of the business intelligence team, the QA Automation Engineer will be responsible for contributing to the design and maintenance of the quality assurance testing suite for new feature and regression testing. You will work closely with product managers, data engineers and business intelligence developers to understand user workflows, use cases and feature requirements to develop business driven test cases, automation frameworks and best practices. You advocate for the customer and sign-off on production changes signaling that the system is fully functional and working as designed. You will also contribute to driving process improvements that will increase the consistency, stability, speed of delivering top-tier business intelligence solutions to our customers.

About the Day-to-Day Responsibilities of the Role

  • Accountable for performing manual and automated testing of data pipelines and business intelligence applications supporting business objectives while demonstrating independence in project analysis.
  • Analyze business requirements, use cases and architectural layers to estimate efforts and develop automated testing strategies.
  • Develop and maintain well performing automated test scripts using programming or scripting languages (SQL, Python).
  • Execute automated scripts for functional, regression, performance, and load testing.
  • Ensure optimal automated test coverage to include most common and business critical business flows.
  • Responsible for running validation tests during scheduled deployments, hot fixes, patch/upgrades implementations, PTO coverage.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot production issues by reproducing, scoping, and identifying possible root causes.
  • Contribute to excellent user experience from a customer perspective.

Qualifications

About You and How You Can Excel in This Role

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or Mathematics.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in testing cloud-based data pipelines, data warehouses, and browser-based BI applications.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an Agile software development environment.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and maintaining test automation frameworks.
  • Experience testing one or more self-service Business Intelligence platforms such as ThoughtSpot, MicroStrategy or SAP Business Objects Web Intelligence.
  • Proficient with database technologies Aurora MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle, S3, Redshift, Snowflake or equivalent.
  • Technical knowledge using APIs in automated testing.
  • Experience with programing in Python, Java, C++, C#, PL/SQL, T-SQL or other languages.
  • Proficient with version control (GIT).
  • Demonstrate a history of defining and implementing automated QA test suites.
  • A deep desire to drive efficiency and quality through automation.
  • Motivated by working in a collaborative environment with individuals from multiple departments.
  • A self-starter and motivated to work as a team to reach new levels of efficiency and quality.
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends as needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent technical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting instincts.
