This is a hybrid role that will require on-site work 2-3 days per week in our convenient location in LEXINGTON, MA, minutes from I-95. Spacious new facilities with ample free parking.
Job Summary
Please note: this is a contract role and will be working through our agency partner for a 6 month+ assignment with Oxford Nanopore Technologies.
We are seeking a talented and versatile software developer for the New Platform R&D group at Oxford Nanopore Technologies. This contract position involves developing tools to support research and development on new DNA sequencing platforms.
Join our team working on the development of a cutting-edge new DNA sequencing platform. We are expanding the software team in order to support the growing research and development work on this platform as it advances.
This role will involve rapid development of Python-based GUI and command line tools for experiment automation, data analysis, and visualization. Automation tools will interact with our core C++ instrument software. You will work side-by-side with lab scientists. Get to see your code in use right away and work together to devise improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop Python-based GUI and command line tools for experiment automation, data analysis, and visualization to support research and development work on new DNA sequencing platforms
- Work closely with the New Platform R&D instrument software team to define and test the interfaces needed to support the above tools
- Work closely with the experimental team to capture requirements, resolve issues and identify improvements
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5-7 years relevant software development with experience in data analysis, visualization, and GUI development in Python
- High proficiency in Python, particularly data processing with numpy, plotting with matplotlib or similar packages, and GUI development with PySide / PyQt
Desired Skills & Experience
- Proficiency in modern C++ (C++11 or later)
- Experience interfacing with USB-connected hardware from Python or C++
- Experience with automation
- Experience with scientific data analysis and visualization
- Experience developing multithreaded/multiprocess applications
- Proficiency with source control using Git
Compensation:
The contractor pay rate for this role is between $50.00-80.00 per hour USD. The salary offered will reflect the skills and experience of the candidate.
