About the role
Canvus creates functional art meant to inspire, reimagine, and connect communities.
We are looking for a Director of PR. This is a director-level position and requires an aggressive appetite to develop the Canvus brand, build out PR infrastructure from the ground-up, and participate directly in media interactions to explode our presence and drive real revenue opportunities.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive PR strategy to build incredible brand awareness and grow our businesses. Your role as our Director of PR (or Brand Communications) is to be a leader of this company – responsible for getting thousands of Canvus products into the world and amplifying the impact with each purchase!
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including journalists, bloggers, influencers, and industry experts.
- Plan and execute all media relations activities, including press releases, media pitches, etc.
- Capable of maintaining the objectivity of Canvus. We will never take a position and want to build a brand around great products sharing a simple message of kindness.
- Develop the company's crisis communication plan and respond to negative PR in a timely and effective manner.
- Monitor and analyze media coverage of the company by developing scalable, automated tracking of media coverage that keeps all teams informed.
- Create templated, scalable stories for local governments or schools receiving donations from the Canvus community, celebrating donor/recipient relationships.
- Lead the PR initiatives related to new product releases and collaborations.
- Manage inbound product media inquiries.
- Build Canvus’ voice and identity – ensure all communications reflect that voice but connect with the specific media outlet, collaborator, or customer-facilitate and guide media personnel during interviews and tours, to foster positive relationships with members of the media and proactively propose strategic media opportunities.
- Spearhead interview prep by working to prepare Canvus leaders who will be highlighted in media, and by conducting research and curating relevant information from other departments.
- Proactively identify and apply for speaking engagements and award nominations as opportunities to elevate the profile of Canvus and its work.
Requirements
- 7+ years of Public Relations
- 5+ years of PR leadership (interviewing, coaching, and guiding a team)
- 5+ years of Media Relations experience, including direct participation in press interactions, interviews, and media calls.
- Strong writing, analytical and organizational skills to lead the PR Department.
- Extraordinary public speaking skills with confidence to pivot in conversations and represent Canvus to its diverse customer base.
- Action oriented, hard-working, and energetic.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and remain unbiased in dealing with a multitude of personalities, political beliefs, and backgrounds.
