The Lutheran Center (national office) is located in Chicago, Illinois. A staff of 400, under the leadership of the Presiding Bishop, serve as administrators, advisors, conveners, partners, and resource people for the ELCA and its ministries. Staff lead the work of national, domestic, and global ministries and programs including Lutheran Disaster Response, ELCA World Hunger, Service & Justice, Christian Community and Leadership, and Innovation.  We are also home to five of our separately incorporated ministries: The Mission Investment Fund of the ELCA, Women of the ELCA, Lutheran Men in Mission, the ELCA Foundation and the ELCA Federal Credit Union.

About the position  

This position will be responsible for researching individuals to assess their viability as prospective major, leadership, or planned gift donors, working closely with mission funding directors (gift officers) the ELCA Foundation. This position will successfully assist in the management of prospect portfolios and donor data. They will implement and maintain effective research and prospect management methods, protocols, as well as efficient data collection and dissemination.

This is a full-time, regular, exempt, remote position. 

Candidates for this remote position must reside within the fifty United States or the District of Columbia and be authorized to work lawfully in the United States. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.

1.  Manage the prospect research request queue and respond to a variety of requests, which range from quick contact information lookups to capacity validations and full prospect research profiles. Ensure that research and data is effectively captured within the donor database in order to generate accurate analytical reports. 

2. Assist with CRM training for Mission Funding Directors, Regional Gift Planners, and other Development staff members in areas pertaining to prospect-based fundraising, and the management of portfolios and pipelines. Act as a subject matter expert for areas of prospect research best practices.

3. Provide support and work on the facilitation of prospect lists to assist in the identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors.

4.  Collaborate with Development and Foundation leadership to adhere to organizational prospect development policies and procedures. Help provide actionable insights to the larger development team, that foster strategic relationship management in support of the ministries of the ELCA. 

5. Other duties and projects as required.

 

Requirements

  

1. 3+ years of experience with nonprofit development strategies, with preferred experience in prospect development and/or data analytics. Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.  

2. Aptitude for computer research and experience with donor- and research-based software. 

3. Ability to be an effective partner to a large frontline fundraising team, with strong attention to detail, and excellent communication and organizational skills.

4. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

5. Strong working knowledge of Blackbaud solutions is preferred; Microsoft Office focusing on Excel and Word.

6. Experience using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, etc.).
