POSITION: Project Manager, School Education

DIVISION: Public Affairs

DEPARTMENT: Education Program

BASIC PURPOSE:

Manages all aspects of the School Education Program by developing K-12 curricula, conducting classroom presentations, teacher training workshops, and partnership programs. Oversees all aspects of the MWRA's Annual Poster and Writing Contests.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the close supervision of the Director, Public Affairs.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Exercised close supervision of School Program Administrative Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops, implements and conducts presentations and hands-on activities for K-12 classrooms, teacher training workshops, partnership programs and special events.
  • Develops and conducts partnership programs with school districts, watershed associations, government agencies, museums, educational organizations and the private sector.
  • Develops and implements new curricula pertaining to current issues in the water and wastewater fields such as What Not to Flush and PFAS.
  • Manages all aspects of the MWRA's Annual Poster and Writing Contest including:
    • Responsible for conceiving contest topic each year
    • Promotes contest
    • Recruit judges and oversees judging sessions
    • Manages all aspects of Annual Awards Ceremony
  • Represents the MWRA on numerous committees.
  • Reviews assigned employees performance in accordance with Authority policy and procedures.

SECONDARY DUTIES:

  • Reviews database, inventory reports, and activity reports.
  • Responsible for making sure School Program web page is updated and accurate.
  • Manages special projects as needed.
  • Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree in education, communication, public administration, environmental science, or a related field; and
  • A thorough understanding of instructional design, curriculum development, management, delivery and evaluation of science education programs as acquired through at least four (4) years of experience of which at least one (1) year is in a supervisory and/or managerial role. Successful completion of the MWRA sponsored supervisory training program and receipt of the training certificate may be substituted for supervisory experience; or
  • Any equivalent combination of education or experience.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in curriculum development for science programs (K-12).
  • Demonstrated communication and platform presentation skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and attention to detail.
  • Organizational skills and scheduling management experience.
  • Ability to delegate assignments and manage staff performance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-conferencing tools such as WebEx.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid Massachusetts driver's license (or license from an adjacent state) is required.
  • A CORI (Criminal Offender Records Information) check is required each year.
  • Ability to travel locally throughout eastern Massachusetts during regular work hours.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Office machines as normally associated, with the use of telephone, personal computer including word processing and other software, copy and fax machine.
