Project Manager I

 

AVL is continuing to grow and evolve as new technologies emerge such as battery, electrification, etc.  We are searching for a Project Manager I to join our team and continue supporting our growth.  This Project Manager I will possess a minimum of 1+ years of technical or PM experience with preferably exposure to new technologies.  Experience in the PM area or technical experience is considerable.  Our PM team is responsible for managing a variety of processes, projects and products working with different internal and external customers.  This opportunity will join a dynamic environment with the support of a team.  The PM role will continue to provide growth and development as everyday provides new and different challenges and opportunities.  

 

In addition to experience, candidates should possess proficient communication, teamwork and a strong work ethic.  The Project Manager position is a leadership role and key position within the AVL organization.  Experience with Microsoft is required, and SAP is beneficial.  AVL is a great opportunity to challenge established skills and develop a career within a strong Project Management team.  

 

The PM position will be a hybrid position of remote, onsite at customer locations as required, and in-person at the AVL office in Plymouth, MI.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Controlling of projects with low commercial, social, and technical complexity.
  • Co-ordination of Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing and Customer site activities.
  • Managing the project initialization and planning
  • Ensures implementation of projects in compliance with all related processes to achieve targets (cost, timing, deliverables) and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensures project quality gates (handovers from and to other departments, design reviews etc.) are fully complied with
  • Scope change management
  • Customer Relationship Management during project execution.
  • Authority of overall budget control – manage and control contingency
  • Interface with Finance and support project accounting requirements.
  • Identify new business opportunities on existing projects.
  • Responsible for applying appropriate tools and methods (Quote, PRISM, risk management, open issues list, documentation, internal project reporting, etc.) 
  • Proactive in escalating as appropriate to keep cost, timing, and deliverables on track while maintaining customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct project lessons learned with project team and management
 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related
  • 1+ years relevant experience, ideally in integration of powertrain and vehicle testing systems
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with multiple customers.
  • Excellent people, verbal written communication and relationship building skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Competence with MS Word, Excel, PPT, and Project
  • Awareness of and ability to accommodate personality and cultural differences
  • Distinctive customer focus
