About the role

Valard Construction USA is a premier utility contractor based out of the US and part of the Quanta Group, the largest electrical power contractor in North America. Valard has full-service capabilities for transmission, distribution, substations, foundations, telecommunications, and renewable energy. Valard Construction USA is a non-union US contractor.


Valard Construction LLC is seeking qualified Project Engineer to join our US Operations team. We are looking for a self-motivated, team player, dedicated individual who is willing to work as part of a dynamic team that provides crucial support to Valard’s projects. The Project Engineer will be based out of an office on site of the project based out of Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Requirements

  • Maintain and expand processes for project execution including creating reports and other project deliverables, internal records keeping, quality control, project billings, project accounting, payroll, and other corporate processes
  • Work with Electrical Technicians on technical briefings, and troubleshooting technical electrical problems.
  • Provide technical knowledge and guidance to Electrical Technicians.
  • Manage, coordinate and inspect field work completed by Electrical Technicians to ensure the building is up to design specifications.
  • Review and approve all the redlines and as-builds that are submitted by Electrical Technicians
  • Conduct audits on engineering progress and coach and guide Electrical Technicians to complete the work in a proper sequence to ensure work is completed as prescribed by the client.
  • Client facing duties such as taking calls from clients, attending, and contributing to meetings, doing occasional site visits and pre-construction walk throughs.
  • Support permitting and locates process, liaising with corporate office to obtain business information, assisting crews in coordinating project delivery around permitting constraints,
  • Assist in managing subcontractors as needed, reviewing, and processing invoices, reading contracts and handling inquiries.
  • Manage timesheet review and approvals for the project, assist with expense claims, payroll, and positive incentive policies.
  • Complete project admin tasks such as: reviewing, preparing, and distributing documentation to crews, preparing meeting minutes, tracking deadlines and other milestones, filing, and maintaining site office files, facilitating, and contributing to team meetings for office and/or field, occasional shipping and receiving of mail for site office.
  • Interface with vendors for purchasing, quotes and orders as needed, tracking tooling inventory and assist in planning for calibration/testing of equipment.
  • Track progress on work order-based project work, reviewing revenue, working closely on scheduling and project planning with project leadership.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly financial reports, and other project reports as required.
  • Other special projects as assigned for the US business unit.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Project Engineer - B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, business or construction management degree, or a related Engineering degree from a recognized institution.
  • 0 - 3 years’ experience in a related field of work or role.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. Scheduling software and construction management software would be an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines, can work independently and in a team environment, ability to manage short-term and long-term deadlines.
  • Confidently able to communicate with varied audiences in office or field, internal and external.
  • understanding of the project lifecycle and construction industry. Knowledge of transmission or distribution powerline construction, or related fields, would be an asset.
  • Problem solving and proactive, forward-looking mindset to seek out problems to solve.
  • Willingness to collaborate with the team for brainstorming, idea sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Availability to work M-F 40 hours a week.
