This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: Austin Surf Club, set in Austin, TX.

Austin Surf Club is seeking a Project Cost Engineer to join the Finance & Accounting Department.

This position is an essential member of the Austin Surf Club group and is responsible for but not limited to all aspects of project job cost accounting and management support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for job cost management support for processes and procedures for assigned project(s) in the construction department.

  • Participate in all appropriate meetings to comprehensively identify and quantify cost factors involved in the project

  • Assist Project Managers with forecasting subs/vendors costs and incorporating the potential change orders into the forecasting process.

  • Audit cost performance and change orders and communicate findings to senior management.

  • Ensure financial operations of the construction department are compliant with company expectations, processes, and controls.

  • Help leadership develop an annual budget, prepare ongoing performance reports, and prepare variance communications

  • Maintain and enhance knowledge and competency of company systems, i.e. Procore, Buildr, MS Project, Timberscan, and other technologies as incorporated

  • Assist Project Managers with the management of project deadlines for billings, month end close, etc.

  • Oversee and review job financial close procedures.

  • Support project team with compliance documents and project audits.

  • Ensure project wide basic principles and management of a cost report, including generating cost codes, grouping cost codes, and summarizing costs are followed.

  • Assist with managing subcontractors and major purchase order payment application via a Schedule of Values.

  • Assist the project team with the potential change order management related to subcontractors/vendors.

  • Assist with tracking and forecasting the project’s indirect costs.

  • Ensure the project team is trained and properly codes cost to the appropriate line items.

  • Generate summary cost reports, charts, and graphs.

  • Participate in weekly and monthly cost reviews with project managers.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 2+ years of construction project job cost management.

  • 2-5 years of accounting/finance experience.

  • Knowledge and recent use of Timberline software (preferred).

  • Knowledge and recent use of Procore software (preferred).

  • Knowledge of general accounting procedures.

  • Proficient in data entry and time management.

  • Familiar with CSI codes.

  • Familiar with GAAP accounting for construction.

  • Familiar with construction WIP schedules.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Organizing and prioritizing.

  • Ability to meet deadlines.

  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and a shift greater than eight (8) hours in length.
