The Project Accounting Specialist is responsible for managing the financial performance of projects, ensuring accurate accounting, billing, and reporting while supporting compliance with organizational and industry standards. This role plays a critical part in tracking project profitability, ensuring timely milestone invoicing, and providing management with actionable financial insights.

 

Your Responsibilities will be:

  • Oversee classification, invoicing milestones, and accounting for all jobs and job costs.
  • Maintain and organize documentation to support customer billing and compliance with internal controls.
  • Prepare and issue milestone billing and associated documentation accurately and on time.
  • Conduct regular analysis of job performance, including revenue recognition, work-in-process calculations, and profitability assessments.
  • Generate detailed financial reports (e.g., Project Cost Reports, Budget vs. Actuals) to support inquiries from management and clients.
  • Prepare and record journal entries as required to support accurate accounting.
  • Ensure adherence to accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS) and internal policies in all financial reporting and processes.
  • Collaborate with project managers and operational teams to track project budgets and identify cost variances.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying inefficiencies in project accounting and recommending solutions.

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in accounting or finance, with a focus on job costing, project accounting, or construction accounting.
  • Proficiency in financial software systems (D365 or SAP preferred).
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and data analysis.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to process improvement.

  • Concentrated mental and/or visual attention. The work involves performing complex tasks to very close accuracy and quality specifications, or a high degree of hand and eye coordination for sustained periods.  

  • The job is typically performed under comfortable working conditions; any disagreeable elements are generally absent during normal performance of job.  Visits to our manufacturing facility and suppliers’ facilities is required to monitor active projects and address design issues.
