About the role

Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Programs & Project Coordinator, Senior, facilitates work focused on student success, in collaboration with units across divisions of the university.

This position will be in person with 1-2 days remote/hybrid schedule. This is a temporary position with an expected duration through September 2030.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. 

Department Overview:

The Microelectronics Education and Research Center (MERC) is the hub for microelectronics innovation, entrepreneurship, and workforce development in Idaho. Organized within Boise State’s College of Engineering, MERC centralizes and coordinates opportunities for all students in essential career preparation and unique research opportunities alongside expert faculty.

The newly established Advancing Workforce Experience in Semiconductors through Outreach and Mentoring Excellence (AWESOME) Center will be a flagship initiative housed within MERC, funded by the National Science Foundation. Its mission is to revolutionize modern computing energy efficiency through groundbreaking research. This will solidify Boise State's position as a national leader in semiconductor research and education, while significantly enhancing educational opportunities for the next generation of professionals entering the semiconductor industry. Together, MERC and the AWESOME Center are driving progress and shaping the future of microelectronics.

Level Scope:

Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of areas typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.

Essential Functions:

60% of Time the Programs & Projects Coordinator, Senior performs:

Project & Center Management:

  • Support the overall strategic and operational management of the center in collaboration with the Center Director, positioning the center to contribute to better educational outcomes and improved research culture across campus.
  • Schedule and facilitate weekly coordination meetings.
  • Organize and facilitate Monthly Internal Steering Committee meetings in collaboration with the Independent Evaluator.
  • Develop and monitor project work plans, timelines, and deliverables across the four sub-projects.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation and project tracking systems to ensure accountability and transparency.
  • Conduct research and summarize data to inform decision making, evaluate program effectiveness or alternatives, and to inform program development.
  • Coordinate integration of projects and track workflow to monitor progress.

Operational Coordination & Communication:

  • Serve as a central point of communication for the center, liaising with internal stakeholders, institutional partners, external collaborators, and industry partners.
  • Coordinate scheduling, logistics, and agendas for all recurring and ad hoc meetings, including the Internal Steering Committee and subproject coordination meetings.
  • Prioritize support for all marketing and promotional activities, coordinating the creation and dissemination of materials to effectively communicate the center's mission and events to the public.
  • Maintain and update internal communication tools, shared drives, and documentation systems to ensure information accessibility and continuity.

Budget & Grant Administration:

  • Provide strategic budget oversight, ensuring compliance with grant guidelines and institutional policies.
  • Work closely with the Research Administrator, who will be responsible for the detailed management and tracking of all budget-related activities.
  • Collaborate with institutional grants and finance offices to ensure accurate and timely reporting and fiscal stewardship.
  • Execute administrative actions including personnel hiring, separation, contract payments, travel, and purchasing.

Coordinate Student Mentoring & Coaching project:

  • Coordinate training workshops, onboarding, and other developmental opportunities to support student learning and professional
