BASIC PURPOSE
This position organizes, supervises and administers the Custodial and Laundry Services Programs at an Oklahoma Veterans Center. This position is assigned responsibilities involving the care and cleaning of the facility. Planning, scheduling and directing actions which ensure tasks are performed in accordance with safety and sanitation standards. Overseeing the agency policies and procedures to meet the linen and clothing laundering needs of all departments and residents in the center. Supervision to ensure standard operating procedures are followed when employees are performing these duties with the Oklahoma Veterans Centers.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plans, assigns and supervises all functions of housekeeping and laundry departments.
- Supervises staff, mentors, coaches, sets work schedules, approves leave, evaluates performance and takes disciplinary actions.
- Coordinates and/or provides training and continued education for housekeeping and laundry staff.
- Coordinates the collection and disposal of garbage and moving of equipment and furniture such as beds, tables, and chairs.
- Performs sanitary inspections in designated areas for purposes of infection control.
- Replaces and removed medically contaminated sharps and/or medically soiled and contaminated dressings and supplies.
- Orders and distributes laundry and custodial supplies; maintains inventory.
- Observes and reports safety violations; actively participates in emergency situations.
- Inspects resident rooms for maintenance of proper housekeeping standards.
- Supervises and maintains records of the distribution of furnishings.
- Maintains necessary records; prepares required reports.
- Assign and review work and schedules for laundry employees, provide training, and ensure completion of required tasks.
- Performs laundering procedures when short staffed or when necessary to ensure work is completed in a timely manner.
- Personally interacts with customers when a problem occurs to fully understand the situation and how to resolve the matter to the satisfaction of the customer, within facility guidelines, in a prompt and courteous manner. Take appropriate measures to avoid reoccurring situations of a negative nature, and that the problems are resolved immediately.
- Reviews techniques on a regular basis to ensure all laundry is processed in a safe and sanitary manner. Review the laundry policy and procedure manual yearly, or as needed. Establish and revise policies and procedures as needed, assuring compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations and standards. Inform all employees when there are any changes in policies and/or procedures.
- Estimates amount of clothing and linen to be used. Takes necessary action to ensure that nursing care has an adequate supply of linens on weekends and holidays. Works with the material management department and coordinate with other applicable departments to requisition supplies and materials for the laundry to guarantee continuity of services.
- Establishes housekeeping and laundry standards; develops policies and procedures, prepares departmental budget requests and monitors expended funds during fiscal year.
- Attend QI meetings, Functional Safety meetings and any other meetings or training sessions pertinent to laundry operations.
- Follow V.A., State, and Facility policies, procedures, rules, regulations; review regularly, and prepare for inspect
