Position Overview:
This position is accountable for annual and multi-year program development/monitoring, coordinated urban transportation planning, data collection for transportation facilities, traffic counting/forecasting, and construction cost estimates.
Essential Functions
- Plans, organizes, directs, and controls the varied activities of the Programming section.
- Coordinates the Programming section’s work with all other sections in the Bureau of Program Development, as well as other district staff and related Central Office personnel.
- Assigns, trains, motivates, and evaluates subordinate personnel.
- Formulates and monitors current and long-range programs.
- Supervises the coordination of the urban planning process for urbanized areas.
- Ensures compliance with departmental safety rules.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
- Five years of experience in civil engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to direct the work of other engineers and technicians.
- Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering.
- Extensive knowledge of modern methods and techniques as applied to the design, construction and maintenance of public works.
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with departmental staff, external contacts, and the public.
- Excellent oral and/or written communication skills.

- Requires frequent district-wide travel.
