Job Description

The DePerro School of Health Professions invites applications to serve as the inaugural Program Director for the Master of Speech Language Pathology (MSLP) Program. The Program Director will develop, promote and implement a new MSLP program by the Spring of 2025. This includes hiring faculty, guiding course development and clinical site agreements, assisting in student recruitment and leading an online MSLP Program.

This position is responsible for fulfilling all required responsibilities as outlined by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) accreditation Standards including:

• Program development in accordance with ASHA accreditation standards and those as required with NYSED
• Faculty hiring
• Course development and clinical site agreements 
• Assisting in Student Recruitment
• Liaising with American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), NYSED and Keypath (the University Online Program Management partner)
• Mentoring online faculty as needed
• Managing program budgets

Qualifications

• Earned graduate degree such as a completed doctoral degree with a focus in SLP, CSD or a closely-related field (e.g. Ph.D, EdD) from a regionally accredited institution required
  • CCC-SLP certification preferred with a major emphasis in speech-language pathology, in audiology, or in speech, language, and hearing science from an ASHA-accredited program 
• Earned MSLP from an ASHA-accredited program required
• Demonstrated experience with ASHA accreditation standards for graduate programs
• Previous successful teaching experience in an accredited (ASHA) MSLP or CSD program
  • 3-5 years’ teaching experience at bachelor, master’s, or doctoral level in higher education
  • Experience with online course delivery and Learning Management Systems (LMS), Moodle preferred
• Proven academic leadership and administrative experience organizing and managing resources in a university setting
• 2-3 years of experience as a leader and administrator of an accredited MSLP program, preferably in an academic setting
• 3-5 years’ experience supervising professional faculty and staff, including planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating
• Demonstrated experience in program and curriculum development, online preferred

• Eligibility for or possess New York State (NYS) SLP licensure
• Thorough Knowledge of ASHA SLP program accreditation processes (Standard 3.0B)
• Experience in teaching and working with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, including age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic experience
• Active participation in professional organizations
• Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills and effective conflict resolution skills
• Commitment to teaching and working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and contribute to the SBU’s mission, vision, and core value.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of maintaining the SBU MSLP educational culture in a hybrid environment
• Skill in verbal and written communication to give and receive direction
• Skill in computer applications including O365 suite
• Ability to apply strategic program planning, from program and curriculum planning, development, and evaluation to technology implementation
• Ability to organize and direct work efforts and manage several competing priorities with impeccable attention to detail
• Ability to communicate clearly to a variety of constituents in a diverse work environment via e-mail and other technology for virtual and remote instruction
• Ability to advise, and oversee advising of students in didactic or clinical settings
• Ability to make presentations and represent the School of Health Professions and the MSLP program in various media when called upon

Working Conditions/Physical requirements

• Must be able to work remotely and independently and use technology as required to lead the program. Must work with the University, the Dean of Health Professions, the Dean of Graduate Studies and Keypath as needed.
