Job Title: PROGRAM COORD
Attention: This position is located in Craven County, North Carolina.
The Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) grant project was awarded from NC DHHS to the Center for Health Policy and Inequalities Program in 2023. PREP is designed to educate adolescents on both abstinence and contraception to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV/AIDS, as well as providing education on adulthood preparation subjects. In North Carolina the PREP initiative is called PREPare for Success. Duke’s PREP is known as the Duke Teen Health Club. Staff may commute from neighboring counties and some work will be hybrid. Occupational Summary
Overall project goals are to: Improve sexual and reproductive health outcomes, promote positive youth development and teach adulthood preparation subjects including adolescent development, healthy life skills, healthy relationships, financial literacy, educational and career success, and parent-child communication.
Plan, coordinate, and administer PREP activities within Craven County North Carolina. Responsible for implementing new teen pregnancy prevention intervention (TPPI) to two community-based sites in Craven County. Attend training in one of two TPP curricula. May also attend trainings on topics including: Positive Youth Development, Group Facilitation, Mindfulness, Human Sexuality, Adolescent Development, Sexually Transmitted Infection/HIV, Birth Control Methods as well as trainings on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB), and other topics to address the needs of adolescents.
Update the Duke Teen Health Club Resource Guide as needed. Gather information on youth access to care and inform youth of available local agencies and organizations’ services including health department, social services, rape crisis, mental health/substance use, LGBTQIA+ support, tutoring, food pantry and other services as needed.
Responsible for developing a shared vision among program partners, community leaders, parents, and youth to enhance the future of the young people in Craven County. Build relationships with community members, organizations, and agencies. Lead outreach, mobilization, and dissemination of the Duke Teen Health Club program to the broader community. Applicants must be comfortable and enjoy engaging with middle and high school aged youth. Applicants must also be comfortable educating youth on topics related to sexual health and comprehensive sexuality education.
