TechCrunch Startup Battlefield Program & Community Manager

TechCrunch is looking for a Program and Community Manager for TechCrunch’s Startup Battlefield 200 program.

Startup Battlefield is TechCrunch’s early-stage launch competition that features startups from around the world. Startup Battlefield aims to showcase the most innovative companies from across the globe, in every vertical. Startup Battlefield Alumni have raised over $29 billion in funding with over 128 successful exits (IPOs or acquisitions). Historically, TechCrunch has only selected 20 companies to participate in the program, but in 2022, we launched the TC Startup Battlefield 200 to feature more innovation across the world. The Startup Battlefield 200 will feature the top early-stage companies in any industry from across the globe.

As the Startup Battlefield Program & Community Manager, you will lead and own several products across the Startup Battlefield team. You will manage a VC-like dealflow pipeline, operational workflow, application/deal flow review, as well as the Startup Battlefield systems, such as application management, communications, targeted marketing, and lead operations & trainings for the top 20 Startup Battlefield companies. In this role, you are tasked with designing and programming the Startup Battlefield 200 and Alumni community activities; developing and deepening the connection that companies have with TechCrunch for the long-term.

The role is highly cross-functional. To execute Startup Battlefield, you will need to work closely with marketing, PR, event operations, editorial and sponsorship teams. Your work will serve as TechCrunch’s “ear-to-the-ground” in the discovery of groundbreaking technologies.

TechCrunch often covers startups first – weeks, months or years ahead of them entering the mainstream consciousness. A strong proactive sensibility and good instincts will serve well in this environment. A strong network, willingness to experiment, tinker, and have fun are a plus.

In this role you will:

  • Be the main POC and public face of the Startup Battlefield program.

  • Create marketing and production timelines for applications in conjunction with the marketing and event ops team

  • Create and manage the online program content agenda

  • Manage outreach for masterclass and VC roundtables speakers

  • Manage outreach to VCs, accelerators and universities to promote program applications

  • Manage pre-event communications to selected startups, manage scheduling, coordinate rehearsals and coaching sessions.

  • Liaise with production team to manage onstage demo needs and presentation order

  • Stage manage and wrangle participants backstage during TechCrunch Disrupt

  • Liaise with PR team to help book press coverage or press events for selected companies

  • Create and distribute post event surveys, reports and recaps

We need someone who:

  • Has strong business development and marketing ops background

  • Has a strong grasp of innovation trends across multiple industries and geographies

  • Can conduct industry and geographic research rapidly and with ease

  • Manages multiple concurrent projects

  • Has experience vetting early stage startups across industries

  • Has experience training or coaching early stage startups

  • Has experience managing startup communities

  • Airtable and Google Suite fluency

  • Excellent communication skills

You:

  • Are highly ethical. This role requires that the staff member does not individually invest stock, angel invest, advise or sit on the board of any startups.

  • Have experience evaluating early stage startups for investments or accelerators

  • Have the unwavering desire to find the most cutting-edge companies from around the world

  • Can develop a sound strategy and be able to turn it on its head when necessary

  • Have cross-industry experience with the ability to quickly learn new technologies

  • Are adept at working independently and also with teams

  • Are capable of breaking pattern matching and finding founder-diamonds in the rough
