Job Description:

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) Bridge Division is seeking a highly motivated Engineer to join our team. If you're an engineer with a passion for bridges and want to take your understanding to the next level, this is the perfect opportunity for you.

Pay range is $34.857 -$51.383 per hour. The pay rate may be commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints if approved.

If unable to fill at the Professional Engineer I level, will consider applicants at the Engineer level which requires a bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline. Must obtain Engineer Intern Enrollment (Engineering in Training Certification) within one year of employment. Pay rate for this classification is $30.577 per hour.

Job Duties:
• Design a variety of bridge types used across the State of Nebraska including prestressed concrete, welded steel plate, reinforced concrete slab and more. Design supporting foundations using driven pile and drilled shaft. Check all structural components for structural adequacy per latest AASHTO specifications and NDOT Bridge Office Policies and Procedures.
• Create civil engineering plans for bridge replacements, rehabs, and repairs for all standard highway bridge types.
• Communicate structural details with co-workers through the use of MicroStation software.
• Review plans to ensure proper geometric layout, component fit, and that details are in accordance with the design.
• Review bridge plans prepared by consultants for both state and local projects for conformance with specifications and policies.
• Calculate accurately the bridge pay item quantities.
• Perform site inspections as needed. Investigate any field problems and provide solutions for the problems in a timely manner. Review shop plans for conformance with design plans and specifications. Stay involved with bridge projects from conceptual design through construction.
• Develop your career in a learning environment with resources available to improve career credentials and certifications. • Perform other duties as assigned.


 

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Professional Engineer I: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline. Must possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license at the time of application and be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects at time of employment or be able to obtain such license within 90 days of employment.

Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline. Must obtain Engineer Intern Enrollment (Engineering in Training Certification) within one year of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Four years minimum engineering experience in bridge design, other structural design, and education/coursework focused on structural engineering.

Other:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record or have the ability to provide authorized independent transportation and be available for occasional overnight travel.
