Position Overview

The Uhrichsville Operations team, located in Uhrichsville, OH is seeking a Product, Process, Quality Engineer. This role is responsible for developing and supporting improvements to the product, process, and quality of the Uhrichsville Works Rolling Mill.  Track, analyze and resolve internal and external product quality issues, provide training and technical support to operations and commercial teams enable Novelis UHR to be the preferred supplier to our customers.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • Work closely with Operations and EMRA teams on quality and process improvements to ensure customer requirements are meet.  Look for innovative solutions to long terms quality challenges.

 

  • Manage day to day and supervise the physical and chemical laboratory services (4 direct reports) to the Uhrichsville Operations within budget and in accordance with agreed levels of service.

 

  • Accountable for all safety and environmental procedures and performance for laboratory functions and technical personnel.

 

  • Support and participate in Quality improvement activities with internal and external Technical Groups. (Kennesaw, Secat)

 

  • Training and development of operations and commercial teams.  Act as a technical “mentor” to those personnel.

 

  • Track and analyze Product, Process and Quality trends to ensure that we are proactive in problem solving and improvement approach.   

 

  • Support contact for Sales and Product Engineers to resolve customer quality related issues.

 

  • Continually plan, monitor, analyze and identify opportunities to implement improved methods, systems and equipment to increase operational and quality effectiveness.

 

Minimum qualifications

  • The role requires an engineering degree or 10+ years experience in the manufacturing and quality control environment.
  • Data processing/Analytical excel and minitab knowledge, SPC and LPA experience, and computer skills in business graphics and quality control.  Lean Six Sigma greenbelt or equivalent (blackbelt preferred)

 

Preferred qualifications

  • QS9001 implementation and maintenance, metallurgical experience and rolling mill background.
  • Must possess strong decision making and problem-solving skills including the ability to solve problems while exhibiting practical judgment and realistic understanding of the issues involved. 
  • Must be able to overcome obstacles and find reasonable resolutions to situations on a case-by-case basis as encountered.
  • Must have the ability and confidence to make decisions relating to role’s accountabilities.
  • Must exercise discretion when determining if direction from manager is needed.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 
  • Must be able to recognize data needed in order to make decisions, collect that data, and analyze in order to determine direction in which to proceed. 
  • If issue is beyond authority level or scope of work, must recommend plan of action to manager in order to proceed.
