Department Overview

Motorola’s Software Enterprise organization is a fast-paced organization at the front line of driving growth throughout Motorola Solutions. The CommandCentral Software team is building public safety solutions that bring the capabilities of the suite together into a single, user-centered workflow and help public safety manage data across their operation.


Job Description

The product manager is responsible for managing the product roadmap to ensure it aligns with product strategy, defining customer and user personas, understanding market need and trends, and driving release processes for the CommandCentral RMS product.

The product manager analyzes the broader portfolio goals and market conditions to lay out a roadmap that is sustainable, differentiated, and delivers unique value. In addition, the product manager works in close partnership with the product owner in an external facing role, responsible for understanding the market, customers, competition, and go-to-market activities. The role of the product manager spans many activities from strategic to tactical and provides cross-functional leadership - bridging gaps within the company between different functions, especially between Development, UI/UX, Sales and Marketing, Deployment, and Support.

Responsibilities

Product Strategy

The product manager is responsible to clearly articulate the business value to the product team so they understand the intent behind the new product or product release. They own the roadmap and must work with the product owner to define, prioritize, and build what matters. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Manage the roadmap

  • Develop business cases

  • Identify customer needs and market trends

  • Evaluate competitive intelligence

  • Align, track, and drive inter-product dependencies at the roadmap level

  • Create business plans and proposals for new initiatives

Product Visioning

The product manager must have the ability to identify and understand customer needs and evaluate those against market size and demand to drive product offerings that will help public safety agencies improve their operations while delivering profitability and customer loyalty. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Collect, curate, and promote the most relevant ideas into features

  • Explore new ways of improving existing services and products as a way of increasing profitability

  • Define which ideas should be promoted to features to achieve key objectives for the product line and business

  • Solicit feedback and requests from customers and field teams and ensure this is seamlessly integrated into the product planning and development processes

  • Gather customer and sales feedback and voice of customer

Product Development

In this role, the product manager champions the need of the user, customer, and other stakeholders throughout the development process to ensure that what is delivered meets the goals, objectives, and desired outcomes of the project. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Develop strong relationships with UI/UX teams and work in close partnership with research and design colleagues

  • Actively involved in initiative and epic creation and refinement

  • Responsible for building, refining, and maintaining the team backlog, including user stories, defects, and research spikes

  • Review and prioritize the backlog as part of the preparatory work for release and sprint planning, including coordination of dependencies

  • Participate in the appropriate agile ceremonies
