Responsibilities & Qualifications

Role Overview:

We are currently seeking a Beverage Packaging Product Development Engineer to join our team at Novelis’ Global Research and Technology Center (NGRTC) in Kennesaw, Georgia. The incumbent will be a part of the Beverage Packaging Customer Solution Center (CSC), working in collaboration with technicians, engineers, and scientists to develop process and product solutions for Novelis and its aluminum beverage packaging customers.

The Beverage Packaging Product Development Engineer will be responsible for planning, organizing, and executing new product and process development projects to ensure proper completion, in line with the safety and quality standards required by Novelis. This position coordinates project work with the can and end-making pilot lines, and Novelis’ manufacturing facilities and suppliers, as well as conducting follow-up laboratory testing and analysis.  This position is  responsible for the quality of assignments with moderate scope and complexity involving the application of standard engineering practices, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques in a variety of innovation projects.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Engineer operating with some guidance, demonstrating fundamental knowledge of Novelis equipment and/or a process area; typically focused on design, product development, or process application related to metal packaging.
  • Responsible for the design and development of experimental rigs, tooling, and processes that will be used to develop new products.
  • Develops and manages the product testing stage to ensure that prototypes perform their intended functions.
  • Performs engineering tasks of moderate to high complexity; maintains and diagnoses critical equipment or processes.
  • Responsible for planning, organization, execution, and documentation of results for customer trials, pilot line trials, and product performance investigations conducted for Novelis, or its customers, and suppliers.
  • Plans work packages based on project charter and key milestones, coordinating with labs and pilot lines on the timing of the work and resources needed.
  • Manages all information and samples needed to execute pilot line fabrication and lab tests. Performs feasibility studies to analyze the commercial and technical viability of new products and processes.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for a work area or project and the link to the business.
  • Ensures on-time delivery of quality results from complex work processes within the Beverage Packaging CSC team.
  • Performs analysis of data and makes product or process recommendations based on this.
  • Demonstrates a high-level of autonomy when scoping and leading projects and work packages. Displays good leadership competencies, influences others effectively, and has good project management skills.
  • Clearly communicates technical information or results effectively to internal partners, suppliers, and customers, and is able to persuade others to trial new ideas.
  • Provides data or results with detailed interpretation as to validity of results and recommendations on next steps.
  • Works in a safe manner and in accordance with established standard practices when operating or modifying equipment and suggests potential EHS-related (Environment, Health, and Safety) improvements to existing systems, processes, and equipment.
  • Develop detailed and specific knowledge of rolled aluminum products and related processes and applications.

 

Qualifications, Skills, and Experiences

  • Requires a BS or equivalent experience in Engineering or Material Science and a minimum of 5 years of progressive post-graduation experience.
  • Working knowledge in forming, stamping tool designs, stamping presses, and lubrication.
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD software and tool design.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Able to balance priorities across multiple projects or work streams.
  • Capability to thrive in a team environment.
