About the role
Description
The Process Control Engineer maintains and improves Sauget site DCS and PLC control and safety interlock systems, operator HMI systems, PI Historian systems, and other process related systems in accordance with site standards and procedures to ensure safe operation, maximize equipment reliability and maximize operations profitability.
Job Responsibilities:
- Shared responsibility for all process control and interlock systems (software and hardware) operations, maintenance, upgrades, improvements, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in all existing and future site applications. These currently include:
- Emerson DeltaV DCS platform
- Emerson AMS Device Manager platform
- Aveva PI historian servers, data collection, and PI Vision user interface
- Mod icon Quantum PLCs and configuration software o Wonderware Intouch HMI hardware and software Allen Bradley PLCs and configuration software
- Modbus RTU and TCP/IP communication protocol and hardware
- Logmate alarm/event historian software
- Develop process control improvements, and implement on the appropriate control platform
- Ensure compliance with corporate and industry cyber security requirements for all DCS related systems
- Serve as Site Instrumented Protective System Requirements Owner. Ensure compliance with site (GEN-21), corporate, and industry (ISA84) safety and interlock standards.
- Manage the hardware and software used for the plant-wide process control network.
- Project development including conceptual design, alternative review, costs, benefits, risks & mitigations, resources, plant testing, construction interface, commissioning, training, and documentation.
- Serve in a support role for capital projects involving implementation of new or modified control strategies.
- Participate in department reviews, MOCs, PHA/LOPA, and root cause failure analysis.
- Assist operations and maintenance personnel in troubleshooting process and instrumentation issues.
- Practice and promote company safety policies and procedures.
- Stay abreast of the latest automation & advanced control technologies and provide innovative solutions to optimize both the process and control systems.

- Manage vendor support contracts for controls and interlock hardware and software.
Requirements
Must be able to execute routine duties which may include:
- Monitor performance of applications and perform preventive and reactive maintenance as required.
- Schedule and perform upgrades to the software and hardware on process computers Perform DCS, PLC, MMI, and PI configuration backups on all systems.
- Rotate on-call responsibilities with others on staff.
- Verify all documentation (drawings, procedures, etc.) correctly reflect the process configuration, address discrepancies and communicate corrections using MOC procedure
- Must work with and communicate effectively with members of Operations, Engineering and Maintenance
- Education: Bachelor of Science in engineering (chemical engineer strongly preferred)
- Work Experience: 5-10 years of experience in instrumentation or control systems engineering with at least two years in designing new control strategies is preferred.
