Principal Quantum Research Manager

Microsoft’s Quantum research group is exploring ways to build a full-stack quantum computer and has become the world’s center of expertise on topological quantum computing. The research effort includes theoretical and experimental teams around the world, who have been designing and optimizing all aspects of the quantum computer, from topological qubit designs to cryogenic control and readout circuitry, to runtime software and quantum language compilers. This effort requires a new level of quantitative device simulations to be developed, with the aim of predicting quantum behavior not previously possible. The Quantum team is seeking a committed and driven Principal Quantum Research Manager.

Responsibilities

You will be part of a team of physicists and engineers seeking to design topological qubits. You will contribute to the conceptual design of topological qubits, lead simulations of the device behavior, and analyze experimental results to understand real-world device performance. You will closely collaborate across teams ranging from nanofabrication to qubit control to quantum error correction research.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

• Doctorate in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years experience in industry or in a research and development environment OR Master's Degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years experience in industry or in a research and development environment OR Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years experience in industry or in a research and development environment

• 3+ years people management experience.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
