This position fills the need for a Technical Program Manager to oversee the execution of a major contract, leading a team of several engineers delivering visual products for flight simulators on a key US military aircraft. The person who fills this role may take on additional duties overseeing other program deliveries, managing internal product development, or leading bids and proposals.
The ideal candidate will have strong team leadership skills and outstanding communication skills, both oral and written. They will represent Collins in customer meetings and will brief program status to senior leadership within the organization. The candidate must possess a solid technical background and be able to guide the team to resolution when facing complex technical challenges. They must have experience managing project schedules and resources. Prior experience with flight simulation or visual display products, such as projection systems or image generators, is highly desired.
What You Will Do:
- Engineering Information Data hub (Single point of contact for VSL/PM, Ops, Configuration Management (CM), Security, etc) for assigned program
- Multi-disciplinary engineering team leader for systems, software, electrical, mechanical, and quality
- Customer’s Technical Interface
- Responsible to guide engineering development in accordance with the Collins Management Systems, Engineering Process, requirements, budget, and schedule
- Develops and monitors project plans, schedules, and budgets for small to mid-size projects and suggests appropriate adjustments to ensure adherence to the established project plan, schedule, and budget.
- Works with group managers to ensure that the project is appropriately staffed.
- Identifies resource issues and works with group management to resolve, escalating to department management if needed.
- Supports Technical Risk and Opportunity mitigation tasks
- Pursues cost saving opportunities and risk mitigation to maximize project profitability.
- Records and documents delay, changes in scope, and any other incidents that impact the scope of work or schedule to ensure smooth project operations.
- Conducts meetings, consolidates, and presents plans and progress reports relating to business aspects of the project(s).
- Identifies and reacts to project problems and recommends solutions, such as reallocating resources or changing contractual specifications.
- Leads engineering bid efforts
- Provides input to Gate Review material, Project Management Reviews, and EAC Reviews
- This position may require occasional travel both domestically and internationally
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
- Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements
- Experience as a Project Engineer or Technical Program Manager, ideally overseeing a small to medium sized program.
- Outstanding leadership, organization, and presentation skills.
- Strong conceptual, planning, and problem-solving skills and a robust technical background.
- Experience as a Control Account Manager or other experience managing project schedules and budgets.
- Experience with requirements management, ideally on a platform like JAMA or DOORs.
- Ability to travel 25% of the time or more.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Knowledge of core concepts of simulator visual systems, such as display systems or image generators.
- Active Security Clearance, or active within last 24 months.
- An advanced degree in a relevant field.
