Position Specific Description
The Project Engineer is the technical lead on a project (PV and BESS) from award through energization. They are responsible for creating the Basis of Design and directing, performing, and reviewing the engineering activities necessary to develop, permit, erect, start-up, and commence commercial solar and storage project sites. Candidates must show excellent technical judgment to lead medium and large Distributed Generation projects from conceptual engineering to commercial operation, coordinating multiple internal and external parties. Successful candidates will be able to prioritize their own work, present technical information clearly and concisely, build meaningful business relationships with cross functional stakeholders, and drive toward ever-increasing efficiency balancing innovation and standardization.
Job Overview
Employees in this role lead engineering and related activities, making decisions and recommendations that have a significant impact on their projects. Employees in this role collaborate with a variety of internal teams (Origination, Production Optimization, Development, Interconnection, Construction, Asset Managment), and external stakeholders (AHJs. municipalities, utilities, etc.), to successfully lead projects from award to commerical operation.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Demonstrate and apply good working knowledge of solar, storage, electrical and/or building industry codes and construction practices especially NEC.
- Apply experience in the design, construction, and/or operation of solar/storage facilities to ensure successful completion of a portfolio of projects.
- Exemplify an understanding of fundamental engineering principles, especially electrical engineering.
- Experience using PVSyst, SAM or other commercial solar energy modeling programs.
- Proven analytical capabilities in solar energy assessment, optimal solar and storage sizing, PV design (DC collection, AC/MV collection and optimization), and storage design (familiarity with inverter and battery products and optimal plant design). Power system design and experience with analytical studies or SCADA/communications can be a plus.
- Apply deep understanding of project drivers and stakeholders, identifying development, procurement, schedule, design and construction risks and mitigation strategies.
- Share knowledge and provide technical support to others, fostering continuous improvement across the team.
- Experience designing with AutoCAD or Civil3D, as well as experience with PVCAD, Virto, or other solar layout tools can be a plus.
- Ability to manage many projects and priorities.
- Ability and willingness to travel to projects sites (typically 20-30%)
Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering preferred

The estimated base pay for this position is $124,000.00 to $186,000.00 per year. Starting pay will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, experience, qualifications, job-related and industry knowledge and skills and education/training.
