About the role: 
This role independently leads complex initiatives for the daily support of products, processes, materials, and equipment in order to achieve production goals (i.e., quality, delivery, cost, productivity, and safety). This Principal Engineer will be a mentor who will help strengthen the technical rigor within manufacturing engineering leveraging a strong foundation in DMAIC and process optimization. The role is required to be 100% onsite with occasional travel as deemed necessary. 

 

Your responsibilities will include:  

  • Drives complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.  Work is expected to result in the development of new or refined technologies, products, materials, processes, equipment, and or scientific method and may broaden BSC’s Intellectual Property in key strategic areas. 
  • Serves as a key resource or expert in one or more of the following: technology development, product design and development, process design and development, test of materials, preparation of specifications, process study, and report preparation. 
  • Initiates and completes technical activities leading to new or improved products or process, for current programs, next generation programs and to meet strategic goals and objectives of the company.  Prepares reports, publishes, and makes presentations to communicate findings. 
  • Analyzes and solves problems from engineering principles, theories and concepts through to a wide range of complex and advanced problems which require novel and new innovative approaches or a major breakthrough in technology. 
  • Understands engineering principles theories, concepts, practices and techniques.  Develops knowledge in a field to become a recognized leader or authority in an area of specialization and applies this knowledge in leadership roles in the company. 
  • Incorporates business policies and procedures into task completion.  Understands the business needs of the company, and has knowledge of the customer needs of our business.  Understands the business cycle and foresight of emerging technologies trends. Influences decisions around alternative engineering processes, products, or equipment. 
  • Cultivates internal and external network of resources to complete tasks.  Serves has a resource in the selection orientation and training of new engineers and employees. Leads a project team, determining goals and objectives for the projects. Mentors employees by sharing technical expertise and providing feedback and guidance. 
  • Interacts cross functionally and with internal and external customers.  Serves as a consultant for engineering or scientific interpretations and advice on significant matters.  Acts as a spokesperson to customers on business unit current and future capabilities. 
  • Assesses process capabilities, prioritizes process improvement opportunities, and innovates and implements process improvements on complex projects. 


Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering discipline 
  • 9+ years of experience in engineering or related fields (or 7+ years w/ Master's Degree)
  • Experience training and mentoring engineers in problem solving and process improvement tools 
  • Strong statistical background 
  • Knowledge of and ability to teach Design of Experiments  
  • Experience performing multiple process characterizations across various technologies 

 
Preferred qualifications:  

  • DMAIC Green Belt Certified and Black Belt in Training 
  • Machine network experience
  • Experience with Industry 4.0 implementation 
  • Electronics troubleshooting and failure analysis 
  • Generating analytical reports in Tableau or Power BI 
  • Predictive analytics utilization in manufacturing yield analysis 
  • Experience designing a serialized flow manufacturing line 
  • Troubleshooting complex equipment downtime situations
