The System Modeling and Analysis team at Collins Aerospace Systems – Engine and Control Systems, is seeking a Principal Engineer, Dynamic Analysis to join our team in Windsor Locks, CT.
In this role, you will lead and develop dynamic physics-based plant and control system simulations integral to the design, verification and validation of electro-mechanical control systems. As a Principal Engineer, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, customers, and management to define, review, and refine critical performance requirements that drive design and development process. You’ll be responsible for decomposing and negotiating requirements across system components, ensuring the system’s dynamic performance is well-understood and aligned with the needs of all stakeholders.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Develop performance models that capture the dynamic performance of critical military engine control hardware utilizing 1D acausal simulation software.
Collaborate with cross-functional design teams to conduct architectural trade studies and optimize hardware parameters in the time and frequency domain.
Decompose system performance requirements into individual components for detailed analysis and implementation.
Support root cause investigations by helping develop physics-based fault trees, conducting what-if analyses, and analyzing test data.
Support development of test rigs by creating analytical models, pre-test predictions and creation of real-time control models used to support test execution.
Exercise exceptional organizational skills to manage the investigation, tracking, and communication of technical and business aspects of various issues, while also conveying the process to internal and external customers.
Guide and support team members in the development of dynamic models and the application of analytical methods to evaluate system dynamic performance.
QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE:
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
5+ years of1D/3D mechanical, fluid, and/or acoustic simulation modeling experience.
5+ years of experience analyzing dynamic performance.
QUALIFICATIONS WE PREFER:
Experience with acausal simulation software such as Modelica/Dymola or MatLab Simscape.
