Position Summary
Qorvo's Antenna Technologies team is seeking a Principal Antenna in Package (AiP) Design Engineer to design, analyze, prototype, and test mmWave printed circuit board-based phased array antenna solutions for defense and aerospace applications.
Responsibilities
A candidate in this position will be trained and expected to perform the following duties shortly after joining the antenna team:
- Design PCB-based antenna elements and arrays for mmWave operation, including analysis of array-level efficiency, gain, scan performance, and related metrics.
- Collaborate with antenna, electrical, RF component, and PCB design engineers to develop mmWave phased array prototype designs for emerging markets and applications.
- Model RF and mmWave components, including PCB mmWave transitions, connector matching networks, filters, tuning networks, and related structures, using AWR, CST, and/or HFSS.
- Design passive circuit components such as power splitters/combiners, microstrip and stripline transmission lines, and impedance transformers using AWR, CST, and/or HFSS.
- Develop, manage, and finalize bill of material (BOM) lists and guide parts selection to support cost models and prototype schedules.
- Support over-the-air test development for new waveforms and test conditions, including hands-on testing of RF and mmWave phased array antennas.
- Support test and troubleshooting of new mmWave phased array prototypes, including power supplies, control circuits, and RF/mmWave circuits, and perform power integrity analysis on prototype boards.
A candidate in this position will be trained and expected to perform the following duties 1-2 years after joining the antenna team:
- Develop, maintain, and update cascaded system design tools to track linear and nonlinear RF, IF, and DC performance of mmWave phased array antenna prototypes using Qorvo ICs.
- Develop AiP architectures and designs, including supply chain strategy and component selection to support prototype and production objectives.
- Assume design responsibility for cost, performance, and schedule of major subsystems within printed circuit-based mmWave phased array prototype designs.
- Interact with PCB manufacturers and assembly shops to produce prototype arrays.
- Develop scripts and automation to improve design and testing efficiency.
- Mentor and train junior staff to develop and expand their skills.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (BSEE or equivalent) with a minimum of twelve+ years of experience.
- Prior design experience with RF/mmWave phased array antenna components.
- Experience using AWR, CST, and/or HFSS.
- Experience testing RF and mmWave circuits, coupons, and systems.
- Experience with scripting or programming using a language such as
